Looking for a nice Jazz skat roland like sound

Post by emjay »

Hello everyone,

I'm a relatively new owner of a nord stage 2 and I love it.
I also own a Roland FP7 but which I don't use for gigs since it's very heavy and yeah, the nord sounds just better and is very flexible.

But I miss a specific sound, which I really love from the roland and I was wondering if there is something similar for the Nord or maybe someone even sampled it.

I am looking for something like this (at about minute 16:40):

another maybe more clear example:

I really like how you can play with it having more staccato like sounds when you play with more Attack and legato when you play it smooth.

I wonder if there's any possibility to get this or a similar sound for the nord?

Greetings,
Jonathan

Hi search the forum. Somebody posted dooh and the dah samples in the past. You can import them as single layer nsmp files (I think the dah one is just the wav file, so you need to construct the nsmp). Unfortunately the NS2 cannot switch/morph samples with velocity but perhaps single layer does the trick for you.

Hey thanks for the fast response! I found this thread: http://www.norduserforum.com/nord-stage ... t4805.html
But it only has the doohs which is already pretty nice but can't find dahs anwhere (also on Roland there is additional "dauh" on highest velocity)

But basically you are telling me that I won't be able to set it up like on the Roland, right? Only by splitting or morphing with pedal/modwheel, right?
Do you know if there any chance there will be velocity layer support for samples in a future OS update?

Velocity layer support is not something that can be added to the current architecture via a future software update.

It will have to wait until the Nord Stage 3 (and really, it needs to come — it's the one major aspect nord is really, really lacking).

that's sad to hear, so I'll have to bring my Roland if I wanna really play this amazing sound. Thanks for the info!

Yeah, the Roland scat vocal program is great.

so might there be a compromise solution? For example, what I imagine, is there maybe a device that is small enough to be well portable which can play sounds with velocity layers that could be played using the nord as a master keyboard? This way I could play jazz scat but without having to bring the heavy roland fp7... I'm not a big gear freak so I don't know if something like this exists... And is affordable of course. I wouldn't spend thousands though

Find an AX9 Lucina if you can. Small, light, MIDI, cheap. Fun, too.

thx this look indeed pretty interesiting but seems to be hard to find here in germany.
Also wouldn't that be possible using a hardware sampler?
