Can the TP40 be replaced with the TP40 Wood in a Stage?
Just curious. Does anyone know if you can swap out the TP40 in a Stage 2 HA88 with a TP40Wood (the wood key piano action Fatar makes). Let's say taking it out of something like a Studiologic Numa Nero. Maybe even just swap the keybeds. Would it work? Would it even fit? Anyone know? Might be fun if it did.
Just got the triple pedal btw. LOVE that thing! The pedal noise is awesome. (Haven't checked yet to see if the other two pedals are assignable switch pedals or just preset for pianos).

Had a thread about this thing last year:rocketman wrote:Just got the triple pedal btw. LOVE that thing! The pedal noise is awesome. (Haven't checked yet to see if the other two pedals are assignable switch pedals or just preset for pianos).

The physical dimensions of the TP40Wood are larger than stock TP40 keybed and will therefore not fit in the Nord chassis. Also, the velocity response characteristics are different, meaning that even if one fabricated a new custom case to accommodate the wood action, one would need to modify the velocity response curves embedded in the OS in order to get it to play well....
In other words, NO.

Not necessarily... More often than not, it seems, playing the pianos of an unweighted Stage from someone else's weighted controller actually manages to work pretty well. Also, if it doesn't, you can use a device like a MIDI Solutions Velocity Converter to create whatever curve you want. That can even be used to address the Nord's own lack of velocity adjustments, as you should be able to turn Local Off and go MIDI Out of the Nord into the box and then back into the Nord to create whatever curve adjustment you like.pablomastodon wrote:Also, the velocity response characteristics are different, meaning that even if one fabricated a new custom case to accommodate the wood action, one would need to modify the velocity response curves embedded in the OS in order to get it to play well....
Not that that addresses the issue of a keybed not physically fitting, of course!

Interesting comment about the velocity midi gubbins.
The clavinet is just wrong, sadly.
Nord really need to address this, however they won't, so thanks for your input. I will look into getting one of these.
Probably not on the Stage 3 either.

Hey y'all,
Its been a while and I was just wondering if anyone has tried this? This would be epic.
From the designs on the Fatar site the TP40 and the TP40WOOD look near identical.
I don't see any reason why you couldn't do this: simply swap a TP40WOOD for the TP40. It looks like its just the core of the actual keys that is changed, nothing else. I've gotten this to work many times with other boards including an Electro 5
Has anyone tried this? I kind of want to!

If this is still true (FYI pablomastodon was the official technician of Nord in US at that time) probably it cannot be done, even is size could be the same (if those drawings have the same scale) the calibration problem will still be there, anyway maybe someone tried and can answer you (I doubt because in that case we would likely already have a post or thread about that on NUF)pablomastodon wrote: ↑12 Aug 2012, 16:41 The physical dimensions of the TP40Wood are larger than stock TP40 keybed and will therefore not fit in the Nord chassis.
