Hello all,
While I'm relatively new to posting here, I visit quite often. It's a great forum. Thanks to you all for the great info and the time you've put in to making this forum so great!
I am also waiting with excitement for the new sax/brass samples from Clavia. I'm confident they'll be great at whatever they attempt, I just hope they consider us performing in R&B bands. It seems like so many other companies focus on orchestral brass or solo lines that don't really cut it and I've never been able to get them to be useful on stage. The only instrument that has helped me be successful is my MotifXS. As of now I'm pretty much lugging it around for my brass patches. By layering several different programs together for different situations (small brass ensembles AND solo instruments, esp. bari-sax) you an get pretty great, expressive natural brass sound out of it for various R&B situations whether it be James Brown stabs (with or without falls), Jungle Boogie-type lead lines, supportive melodic lines, and even 'padding' situations. Of course, handwork on the pitch bend and mod wheels is important.
The thing that concerns me is the Nords inability to transpose more than and octave in either direction. For splits you need to be able to play a bari-sax way up there on the actual key bed but you've got to be able to transpose it a couple to a few octaves down to keep it in it's natural register. Most brass ensemble samples/programs I've come across are missing the ever important lower end to give them the power and density they need to work.
Does anyone know if there is there a place where I can make suggestions to them directly? I'm assuming the only workaround is if they include a strong enough lower end in the samples of small, medium, and large brass ensembles because we won't be able to compensate for it on the back end without being able to transpose as much as needed.
Does anyone have any ideas or other workarounds? Man, if they get this right for my purposes I'll be able to go with just my Stage to many, if not most of my gigs...
