Help trying to create a particular sound

Post by Darren »

I have to do "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen and having problems trying to get something for the swelling sound effect that stops abruptly just before the chorus. Tried using white noise with a long attack but it doesn't have enough depth. My verse patch is the pizzicato string sound from the Melotron library (I extended the release slightly) so looking to split the board and use the synth in slot b to cover this effect.

The sound I'm referring to starts at 26 seconds in.

Any ideas for something that's really going to kick it live?

How about noise with a band-pass filter? Crank up the resonance and sweep up the filter frequency using the mod envelope while at the same time increasing the amplitude with the amp envelope?

Did you grab the samples from this thread? They work very well.

Hello!

I've done a cover of this with my function band using the samples posted a while back. They work great but we had to do some trickery as we needed it to be in a different key as we have a male singer! I ended up doubling the part with some other fast attack strings off the NS2 - which worked really well.

In terms of the whooshing sound, I'm thinking its a filter thing too. White noise and opening of the filter. With the resonance set right it should give the desired effect. I'm not sure if bandpass is the way to go, although that would produce a nice result too. It might just be a bog standard LPF sweep. More than likely in the studio they just drew a volume ramp in pro-tools and cut the end off at the desired point rather than messing about on a synth (soft or otherwise). So the attack idea might work well in tandem with this?

If you manage to get it right, I'm gonna stick it in our version too! Since now you've pointed it out it sounds a bit odd without it!

I can get the effect but I want to somehow force the LFO to start it's cycle when I press the key otherwise I tend to find the oscillator is mid sweep when i hit the note.

OK.

Here's what I've come up with short of a better solution:
Call Me Maybe 1 .ns2p

The LFO is not controllable (unless someone knows different). So based on the ideas above, Ive taken White Noise into the LP and I control the 'Whoosh' with the Freq controller - I could also assign to the wheel i guess.

To play it, I hold down a load of notes with the left hand in the low split and depress my sustain pedal then roll up the frequency. At the right moment, I release the sustain to cut the sound then switch up to my patch for the refrain/chorus bit.

No, but I will give that a shot tonite. It is basically the chorus patch, but it is dead on.
