My triple pedal squeaks atrociously
Dear all,
My Nord triple pedal is only 6 month old, and the sustain pedal already squeaks like hell when I playing ! I'm talking about physical noise here, nothing to do with anything electronic.
A long time ago, I had the same problem with a Roland pedal. I then solved it by taking it apart, and greasing the spring with olive oil or whatever I found in the kitchen.
So I plan to do the same here. I'm just asking... Has anyone encountered the the problem, and does anyone have any advice from before I start teasing my triple pedal with a screwdriver ?
Thanks.

Re: My triple pedal squeaks atrociously
Use wd40, there is a little hose to reach spring and mechanics in the pedal without screwdriving =)
Re: My triple pedal squeaks atrociously
WD40 is great, but since it is a petroleum-based lubricant (and cleaner) it should not be used on plastics (see http://www.wd40.com/faqs/). Using lithium grease might be a better choice, especially if plastic are involved. It doesn't dry up and doesn't damage plastics and rubbers. You can't spray it in though, so you'd need to open your pedal. Lithium grease is also used to lubricate parts of the keybed of your instruments, for example.
You could buy (white) lithium grease online (should be fairly cheap) or at a shop that sells (for example) RC racing cars. Shops selling stuff for maintaining your car might also have it.

Re: My triple pedal squeaks atrociously
If you have a baby and a stroller (pushcair), you may have a spray bottle with it, it's a silicon based grease, works fine too!
This seems to happen on a lot of pedals, whatever the quality, within about 6 month, played about 6 hours a week.

This is how you've got to treat your Triple Pedal:trumelpuut wrote:does anyone have any advice from before I start teasing my triple pedal with a screwdriver ?

Re: My triple pedal squeaks atrociously
They tell that you can use it on plastics, except polycarbonate and polystyrène, I do think that the pedal is made of ABS plastic or else, I did use WD40 on multiple things with plastic and no problems =)

Re: My triple pedal squeaks atrociously
Waw ! I didn't expect to get so much useful info !
Thank you all.
I think I will email Clavia's support and ask them if I can spray WD40 through my triple pedal opening (which seems the simplest way)... They usually respond quite fast and nicely. I'll let you know.

Re: My triple pedal squeaks atrociously
Ok, here the response I got from Clavia's support :
"I am not in the office at the moment, so I can't really investigate what it is that might cause this. But do not spray any lubricant into the unit, there are electronic and mechanical things in there that may not like WD40. I think you need to open it and find the spot that makes this and lubricate this gently with some silicon gel or similar."
So, no easy way.
(They responded within 24h, as usual

Re: My triple pedal squeaks atrociously
The problem with the spray is that it will get in places where it shouldn't, possibly the contacts.
What is wrong with the lithium grease mjbrands suggested applied only on the moving hinge?
See http://www.norduserforum.com/download/file.php?id=1332
I guess that the part to lubricate is the shiny (aluminium ?) piece kept in place with the 2 dark screws, going through the plastic piece (top third of the image).

Yes that would make sense.Mr_-G- wrote:I guess that the part to lubricate is the shiny (aluminium ?) piece kept in place with the 2 dark screws, going through the plastic piece
I haven't got around to trying yet, though.
I'm kind of lazy with the shopping and the screwdriving...
