What piano sample is this?
I think this piano sounds soooo good.. just love it.
I know much of it lays in the hands of this amazing player... But anyway, could anybody point out which of the sounds in the Nord Piano Library he is using?
Watch the solo at 47 min. It is so well performed and I just love how good it sounds

Don't know which sample, but he's playing on a Stage 2, so limited to what ever samples are installable on that version of the keyboard.

Re: What piano sample is this?
He's playing a highly compressed Nord white Grand with high eq ... but out through a Roland Jazz Chrous JC120 amp (into stereo mics).
It's a basically what many 1970s keys players did ie. hunt for and create a "unique sound" to set themselves apart and be interesting. Best example of this idea is a Wurlitzer ep200 through an early Fender twin reverb, with half the signal compressed and through a 1976 Boss CE-1 guitar footpedal (utilising the same chip as in the Rolnd Amp)... achieving that amazing Supertramp sound.

Re: What piano sample is this?
i saw the Roland JC and the mic as well, but there are also two direct boxes on top left of the JC. I don’t know what the mics on stage are being used for, but pretty sure what you are hearing in the recording is not coming from the amp. same thing with the guitar amp and mic.Wurliman69 wrote: 12 Mar 2026, 19:20 He's playing a highly compressed Nord white Grand with high eq ... but out through a Roland Jazz Chrous JC120 amp (into stereo mics).

Re: What piano sample is this?
I highly doubt this is going through the amp. I guess that is for the clav and ep sounds he is playing on the other Nord.Wurliman69 wrote: 12 Mar 2026, 19:20 He's playing a highly compressed Nord white Grand with high eq ... but out through a Roland Jazz Chrous JC120 amp (into stereo mics).

Re: What piano sample is this?
That might actually be a pretty good guess.... Been listening to the demo of it now.pianoharri wrote: 12 Mar 2026, 18:36First guess: Grand Imperial?Latebloomer wrote: 12 Mar 2026, 15:03 I think this piano sounds soooo good.. just love it.

I will try to install it on one of my Nords and see how close I can get.
Thanks.

Re: What piano sample is this?
Sounds more like an Upright to me. Amber or Pearl I'd say. I don't think it is a Grand, but if it is, It sound like a Yamaha.. Probably Studio Grand 2, or even a slightly less bright Bright Grand.

Re: What piano sample is this?
I'm unfamiliar with this band and upon a quick listen I will want to check them out some more. Seems like very tasty music, played well, and good vocals.
As for the piano sound, I think with the right type of EQ and compression, most any of the Nord piano sounds could sound like this (aside from some of the softer type samples like Velvet or Rain).

Re: What piano sample is this?
I do agree. Only thing is that at some point during the concert there is actually a shot that shows that the Grand Piano part is enabled on the Nord.Macsaint777 wrote: 22 Mar 2026, 20:11 Sounds more like an Upright to me. But I do very much agree and my first thought was that it was the Grand Upright. But I am pretty sure he plays a Grand here.
