NS4 HA88 Triple Pedal 1 not working reliably

Post by Eumel »

Hi folks,

I currently have my NS2 EX and my NS4 next to each other. I have a Nord Triple Pedal 1. The right pedal I assigned in both keypoards to Sustain + Rotor Toggle. With my NS2 EX this works perfectly fine, i. e. it reacts at 100% I use it. I can also see this by looking at the rotor speed LEDs.

Connecting the very same pedal to my NS4, the right pedal only works in about 70% of using it, which is completely unacceptable  . Again I also can see this by looking at the rotor speed LEDs.

Any clues?

Thanks in advance!

Greets

Hi Eumel, I can only think of:
Cable/plug broken/desoldered
Contacts dirty
Jack dirty/broken
NS4 bug (is there a setting for that pedal?)
Any combination of the above

Did you try using a multimeter/tester to see what values you get out of the TRS plug?

Hi Mr. G.,

Thanks for your reply.

As I'm an electronic engineer, I'd like to sketch a model now:

We have a source (pedal) and two different sinks (the 2 keyboards).

When using the source with sink1 (NS2EX) everything works perfectly.
When using the source with sink2 (NS4) I see a non-reliable scenario.

Of course, different Nord Triple Pedals 1 are not perfectly the same and maybe I have one that is on the edge of tolerances: Anyway, it works perfectly with sink1 (NS2EX). Thus is proven that the problem is in sink2 (NS4). In other words: The sustain pedal circuitry (or its software parameters) in sink1 and sink2 are different. I really do hope, that there is no problem inside the NS4 that cannot be fixed by changing SW parameters, otherwise the Triple Pedal 1 is to be seen as not compatible for the NS4.

I hope that Nord is able to get that fixed soon. I already issued a support request.

Thanks

Hi folks,

Is there anybody else in this forum who has experiences with a NS4 together with the Triple Pedal 1?

Thanks

In the vid at the link below, Dan Bingham is playing a NS4 with a triple pedal 1.

I also have that combination, @Eumel. I did not have any problems so far, but at the same time, I don’t have the same setting regarding the rotary speed.
I am currently not at home, I might be able to test that on Sunday.

I wonder… if you go to the pedal menu, the NS4 shows you the three pedals of the TP1. And when I press my right pedal there, theres even that little animation (a bar that is filling up). Can you see any irregularities there? Because if there are no jumps whatsoever I would say this specific thing is a bug regarding your specific setting.

I'm using Triple pedal 1 with my NS4, no issue at the moment and I tested a lot of different combinations

Resolved,

after I connected a friend's triple pedal 1, which worked perfectly, I decided to open my pedal to see what I could do.

There was nothing suspicious. What I did to fix this issue, is, to flip the two rubber contacts of the sustain pedals by 180 degrees. These rubber contacts are not symmetrical. Each of them has two contacts, but one of them is deeper and thus closer to the PCB. I bought my pedal second-hand. Probably the rubber contacts were mounted wrongly.

Nevertheless - now the pedal is working perfectly :keyboard:

Cheers
