Nord Stage 4 - Seamles reverb transition is missing

Post by larsjulin »

Hi North -

I have now had my new NS4 for 3 weeks. Thanks for a great instrument. It is, in my opinion, an exciting sequel to NS3. I have now transformed many of my NS3 programs to NS4 and had the opportunity to compare the sound differences thoroughly. There are two things I miss quite a lot.

I am missing some of the Nord Sample Library 3 sounds in version 4. They are simply better in version 3. Hope you will make it possible to convert from 3 to 4.

The other thing I miss is that reverb that has been generated, does NOT fade when you fade the sound on a section down. On my NS3 I can fade one section down and another in with the control pedal while playing without the reverb being affected. This helps to provide a nice and fluid transition between two sounds that replace each other.

On the NS4, reverb fades out when I fade a sound down while playing. Sliding transition of sounds is exactly Nord's trademark, so I assume that is a mistake :-).

I very much hope that it can be fixed in your software, because I think that it is something that many NS3 users will miss the very fluid transition between the sounds.

Hej!

This isn't Nord, mind: This is just a user forum. Nord knows about this place, and we like to think they probably drop by every once in a while to see the general gist of what's going on (they've name-checked the forums once or twice when making bug-fixes), but they are not affiliated with it and do not run it.

If you want to reach them directly, you'll need to go through their contact form.

There ist a new firmware 0.98 out, but in the update history I didn't find your issue regarding the reverb and fading out. Have you had the opportunity to try it out with the new firmware?

Not sure if this is same issue as when I switch reverb type , on organ so far only I tried , the sound cuts out - just unboxed an hour ago !
UPDATE: only hear this when WET 8-10, so not problematic for me.....thanks

Has anyone confirmed this problem with OS v0.98? If so, has anyone reported it to Nord Support at https://www.nordkeyboards.com/support ? When?

Hello everybody, quick question: is this issue still present? I didn't notice anything related in the Nord's official update history.

I think it should be said this issue is not about seamless transitions between programs. I have no problem with those.
This is about the effect chain:

There are already multiple threats about this, one coming also from myself:
nord-stage-forum-f3/level-for-synth-in- ... 24196.html
and
nord-stage-forum-f3/ns-4-reverb-effect- ... 23870.html

I love my NS4, but the order of the effect chain regarding this is just painful. This is so limiting.

I feel like more and more people understand what this means.

I am playing a lot of strings as 2nd keyboard and I am using the expression pedal to fade strings in and out. Sometimes rapid fade outs. Now, the reverb is just suddenly gone. So weird. Even (musically) weirder, morphing the volume UP again makes the reverbed signal louder again / or even come back, of course. Who wants that?!
Same goes for the delay. It is impossible to hide the attack of a sound by fading in with a volume morph. That attack will be part of the wet delay signal, once you increase the layer volume. This is unusable.
Both should be post layer volume. But as others mentioned, the WAVE 2 is designed the same way.

The only solution to this at the moment is to morph the filter cutoff with a 12dB LPF instead of the layer volume. That kind of works, because the filter cutoff is pre-effects, but it’s nothing like before.

Seems like we have to live with that.

:(

EDIT: Just saw now that this is even the oldest post about that. Sorry everyone. However, this issue is still present.
All the best everyone!

Let me pitch a possible solution, maybe not for every use case, but at least for (most of the) samples:
Since the filter section in the NS4 happens on the display only, they could introduce a completely flat, horizontal filter. Of course, such a filter has no cutoff, but you could use the cutoff knob to lower / rise that filter. I know that would be nothing else than volume (what you would get with amp (env)) but for me, that would be an okay solution and it would be morphable, of course. And: it would not mean a complete re-design of the effect chain.
For most (?) of the samples the filter is deactivated anyways, and for synth sounds it is more common to actually us a filter sweep, which is weird when you play samples.

What do you think?
