Morph wheel not always in full range

Post by Schorsch »

Hello,

I just noticed that the morph wheel on my Stage 3 Compact does not always control the full range of what is set for morphing.

As an example, I have created a programme where I set the organ volume to 100% and the piano volume to zero. I set the wheel to reduce the organ volume to zero and the piano volume to 100% when the wheel is pushed all the way up, and of course back to 100% for the organ and zero for the piano when it is pushed all the way back. Now I see that sometimes when I push the wheel all the way up or down, it doesn't go to 100% or zero, the last LED (the one for 100% and the one for zero respectively) stays dark. When I move the wheel up and down again, all the LEDs light up again, as they should.

At the moment I'm not worried about this because it's barely audible, but I'm wondering if this is the start of a potential bigger problem. Has anyone here noticed the same behaviour from the wheel and is there anything that can be done to fix it?

I haven't noticed the same behavior with mine either with the MW or the control pedal. Is it an issue where it's not showing zero/100% when you first select the program (though the MW is in the correct position) and then corrects itself once you've moved the MW, or is it a random occurrence as to when it happens?

It's a random occurence while staying on the same program - I just noticed that it happens from time to time when moving the wheel up or down in a fast way, not so when doing it slowly/smoothly ..

That's interesting, I'll see if I can recreate it later today when I get home.

I suggest you to check if also related MIDI data (CC1) is being generated correctly or not, using a MIDI Monitor.

Thought so as well but I have no computer available right now to check, will do it in the next couple of days/weeks when I have a chance to hook the Stage 3 up to a computer

I set up a similar morph on my Stage 3 tonight trying to recreate the same problem. I quickly moved the MW from zero to 100% and back down quite a bit but in all cases it went to zero/100% consistent with the morph.

Thank you for checking, so seems as if there is an issue with the mod wheel on my Stage 3 compact - doesn't affect me much yet but I hope it does not get worse over time

Just to make sure: you haven't in the meantime adjusted the volume via other means, e.g. the knob, right?

No, just moving the MW up and down withput touching any of the volume knobs. It happens when you move the MW relatively hard to the upper or lower stop, as if it then springs back a little at the end due to the hard stop or something like that. I should probably be a bit more sensitive with it and moving it more smooth
