Brenton Wood - Gimme A Little Sign - what instrument

Post by john_nick »

HI

Got this tune to do for the band. I can hear piano way back in the mix, but what is the instrument that does the solo lead. Is it a Stylaphone ?

A Musitron according to: The Foundations of Rock: From "Blue Suede Shoes" to "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes"
(I can't believe I found this!).

Background on the Musitron — it’s a heavily modified Clavioline (grey box in the middle of the article):

The Nord giveth; the Nord taketh away…
"The Angels of Libra are in the European vanguard of the [retro soul] movement“ (Bill Buckley, Soul and Jazz and Funk)
The Drawbars — off jazz organ trio

Looks like it was Farfisa after all

That's His Farfisa Organ On Brenton Wood's 1967 Hit, "Gimme Some Kind Of Sign."
