Nord Lead A1 - morph selected patch only

Postby S Righteous » 14 Oct 2018, 22:57

I can't figure out how to turn off the Multi-focus feature.

I have a performance, with four patches. Each is set to it's own midi channel. I have midi going to each from a sequencer.

I want to select a patch, then edit it on the fly. This seems to work, I can edit one filter, while not affecting the filter of the other patches. But when I use the mod-wheel to morph - all patches morph.

Is this something that can be turned off?

I tested that sending midi data for mod on the individual channel does work, it only morphs the one patch, but I want to do this from the A1 itself.

I assume Multi-Focus is off, but the manual doesn't make it clear how to know if it's on or off.

Hi S-

All the enabled slot buttons in a performance will be blinking together when multi focus is on. Hit Shift-Multi Focus to turn it on or off. It sounds like you programmed the wheel morph with Multi Focus turned on.

You must set up the morph on a single slot with Multi Focus off. Then the wheel should only affect that slot.

Oh, I didn't know that the mode you were in when setting up the morph made a difference. I don't think the manual hits on that, and I never would have guessed!. Thanks for sharing your experience.

So - is there a way to copy the morph from the performance to the patch?

I'm actually adding slots to an existing preset performance.

Sure, Just copy whatever slot you like, and paste it into a patch. You cannot copy just the morph setting, you have to copy the settings for the entire slot

Ok. just did some testing, so when a patch is in a program, you can't set up a morph for it and have that work only on that patch.
Selecting just patch 1 for example does not stop the mod-wheel from triggering the morph of the other patches in the program, even with multi-focus off, even with all slots set to unique midi channels.

I'm going to test setting up the morphs while in patch mode, then adding those patches to a program to see if I can morph each one separately.
Fingers crossed.

Yeah, I couldn't get this to work.
There is something going on I don't understand, or performance mode has the mod-wheel always morph all tracks.

I have midi going into the A1, no midi out. I'm not using USB, to ensure there is no midi loop. The midi is coming from Logic on different midi channels.
I took two patches and cleared their morphs, while in program mode. Then created a performance with these in two slots. So the morph wasn't done while in performance mode. Multi-focus is off. It's a brand new performance.

In performance mode, I play back midi tracks into the A1, and it doesn't matter which program slot is selected, both programs will morph when I move the mod-wheel.

I also have the global midi channel off, in case the mod-wheel always sends on that channel. But each slot has it's own channel, so that mod-wheel shouldn't be affecting both patches. Other knobs are fine - I can use the filter knob, and it only affects the selected slot.

It doesn't matter if you are in program or performance mode. The NL Mod wheel always affects all parts that have wheel morphs/functions programmed, whether they are active or not; as do impulse morphs.

Ah, so that's the answer.

I wish it wasn't, because I want to morph parts separately. It's bonkers that I would have to use a midi controller to do this, because if the modulation is coming from the specific midi-channel of the slot, it does limit the morph to just that slot.

Oh why oh why Clavia did you set it up this way? Make it an option. The "hold enable" button is redundant and useless, have that be a morph select option or something. . .

Anyway, Execbat, thanks for confirming this.

It would be better to say that the mod-wheel affects all slots, or all midi channels.
Morph is not global. If you send mod data to each channel from your sequencer, it will only affect the slots with that channel.

For sequencing, that's fine. But if you want to use the moph function live, on each slot separately, you can't use the mod-wheel. You have to use a midi controller of some kind.

sux of course.
