Was flipping through settings and noticed the cntrl pedal gain setting - which seems to increase the gain by x%, is this correct?
I can't think of any use for this unless you had a broken pedal or something. Is there any other effect other than just adjusting the pedal %? Why is this a setting?

It is just for adjusting teh % swing, it helps particularly if your Expression Pedal has a non-standard pot value
