The filter is the same as on the previous Dave Smith Prophets.

The Prohpet 6 filter is the same as in the Pro2 only, not the other previous DSI synths.

Hi All,
Thanks for the answers, it helped me, because it will be 2800$ and in May, and because there is more modulations, LFO and 8 voices, I will stick to the 08....When the 06 will be released, it really I missed it, I'm pretty sure I will still be bale to,sell the 08 for a good price or even keep it and wait for the 06 desk module?
Thanks anyway

Exactly, that is what gives this synth a very unique and great sound.

Let's hope they don't make a desk module without knobs like they did with the P12 - what were they thinking???
And now for something completely different...

Hej!

And I, as a Swede, would like to nominate Dave to this old piece of metal from the hands of our beloved king ... for MIDI, of course!

Dave said they don't make a module/rack Version, because this won't work for this kind of product :!:

i can see why he may say that - on a synth like this the knobs are very much part of the instrument - if you just want to hit black and white keys and not touch the knobs while playing, you may as well get a rompler.
However, it's a shame as i think there are plenty of people out there with midi master keyboard who have a lot of real estate on top to fit a desktop unit. I simpler don't have space to acquire any more keyboards without having to get rid of some, something I always regret doing :-(

Have you seen the new Arp Oddysey? It's built for munchkins! it's like when Korg brought it the itty bitty new MS20... Has market research shown that keyboard players are now 25% smaller than they were in the 1970's?
Still, having just posted on this very thread that studio space is an issue for me, I guess I should just shut up!

I would spring for the Prophet 6…

I have a DSI PolyEvolver Keyboard (PEK) and while its cool (4 oscs per voice with digital waveforms on oscs 3 and 4) I do miss that VCO sound… also the PEK filter character (which is I gather is the same as the Prophet 8) is very modern which makes it good for all manner of rhythmic stuff but less so for those wide warm pads without a heck of a lot of programming… For instance I have some nice JX10 pads in my PEK (I have a rack (PER) too for 8 voices) but it took a lot in way of modulations to get something which is meat and potatoes on a 70s/80s poly. I had a feeling it was a similar story with the Prophet 8 though its definitely possible to get really warm sounds just takes some effort! :D

So without a doubt… go for the Prophet 6 although the Prophet 8 and PolyEvolver stuff are also great synths!

Btw… one of the best solo sounds I have is the PEK/PER combo in unison for a stack of 8 voices!
