Success!
After downloading the OS-update I just updated my new Nord Stage 2 from 1.40 to 1.60 successfully using Virtualbox and an old XP-CD under Linux (openSUSE 12.1).
Worked without any problems. You just have to "reconnect" the USB-device to Virtualbox after the reboot of the Nord Stage 2.
Nord Sound Manager and Sample Editor are working as well.
If I find the time to test the wine-solution I'll repost.

Re: Any way to do updates on Linux/Ubuntu?
I understand that I could create a VM and install windows, but the only disk I have is a 'recovery disk' and I am not sure whether 1) I can install it from there? or 2) whether despite of having the windows license to run in the same machine (i.e. it is a double boot) this would disable the windows already installed (in a different partition).
Has anybody done any progress about running the sample editor or sound manager (actually the problem is the USB driver) under Wine? Thanks.

Re: Any way to do updates on Linux/Ubuntu?
Hello
Here's another Ubuntu & Nord software success-story:
I recently turned into lubuntu user (very light ubuntu).
After reading this post, I tried Virtual Box, installed windows XP from a 15 years old CD, then, after installing all nord windows software, my nord stage 2 was "almost" immediatly recognized.
I say "almost" because I had first to fix my virtual box USB connection, google was good enough for this. I didn't ask for any advice, because there were enough information on linux sites.
hope this helps

Re: Any way to do updates on Linux/Ubuntu?
Hi All,
I would also recommend using VBox and can confirm that Sound Manager and Sample Editor work fine.
Tested with NS2, Ubuntu 12.01 and Windows XP.
The only advice I can give is to install Virtual Box Guest Additions after installing Virtal Box. This will ensure that you have full USB functionality.
Have fun.

Re: Any way to do updates on Linux/Ubuntu?
To enforce the virtual box solution:
I also managed to update my TC-Helicon voicelive firmwire (and discovered the full potential of virtual machines).
I also tryed with Windows 7, works like a charm.
My advice if your linux does not recognize hardware:
Read carefully the following link, especially the step 5, it's almost easy like a nord interface:
http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/virtualbox-usb.html
Then enjoy!

Re: Any way to do updates on Linux/Ubuntu?
Thanks mistral_73 for the link. In the long term, what would be great is for the Nord *driver* to be detected by Wine, so we do not need a copy of Windows or Virtual box
I thought it should be in the best interest of Clavia to make sure their software runs everywhere, AND well beyond the shelf life of 3rd party OSs.

Re: Any way to do updates on Linux/Ubuntu?
I'm so glad I found this. I have the same issue where the update utility fails to locate the piano after it reboots into update mode. How exactly did you reconnect the usb after it reboots? Nothing seems to work here, neither reconnecting the usb manually or unticking the "clavia usb" in VirtualBox. The piano is stuck on "ready for update"..
EDIT: Posted in the wrong thread, but if anyone knows how to reconnect the usb in VirtualBox please let me know. Thanks.
