Hey guys,
I got an Nord Rack 2. I really love the sound and everything would be perfect if there wasnt this tupid problem :
So i what do is i create and external instrument in Logic which sends an Midi Signal over my Audio Interface into my NR to tell him what to play. So far so good. Next i create a Audio Track to record. Now heres where it gets really weird: As soon as i turn on the "record enable" button my Nord does a whole lot of noise. I can see on the "Trig" that he gets a signal on every first beat. And thats ONLY when i want to record and press the little "R".
I tried a lot of things. Turned the midi clock on/off and stuff like that. But somehow Logic keeps sending a signal when i hit "record" which is so weird. Ive also got an MFB Tanzbär and an Moog Mother which i use exactly the same way and they just shut up and play their stuff when i want to record I really dont know what to do. I can send pictures and sound if needed.
Im happy about every answer ! Im desperatly wishing theres an solution since this thing sounds so nice but i cant record it. The problems also killing the workflow like cracy
Greets Luis

Re: Nord Rack 2 +Logic X: Recording Problem
Sounds like a vexing problem, indeed, and I'm sorry that I cannot think of an answer to this question at the moment, but...your NR2 is a "he?" I thought they were all she...
Perhaps if you go into Midi Menu and disable reception of program change and/or controller data?
Bless,
Pablo

Some questions to try and restrict the scope of the problem to diagnose:
Which audio interface are you using and can you describe ALL the connections in place on it and also the related settings in Logic?
Have you tried to MIDI-monitor the connection to see what data is being sent when you press the Record Enable?(you can do that using the free Midi Monitor app for Os X https://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/)
Do you hear that noise from the Nord headphones output too?

Re: Nord Rack 2 +Logic X: Recording Problem
Hey guys and thanks a lot for the answers
@Pablo: I already tried that. Didnt change anything.
@maxpiano: I already tried the midi monitor before i wrote in the forum and there was nothing shown. I hope i used it right. Just checked it again.
Sadly the noise is also coming from the headphone output.
So for the connections: Ive got an Focusrite Saffire 6 USB Interface which feed my Midi Instruments over the "midi out". I used to have another Interface where i had the same issue. Further i use an Oxygen49 USB Keyboard to play my Software Instruments and my analog gear.
For the midi settings:
Allow to send song position pointer while playing is turned on
Then theres a midi clock installed which is sends to my Focusrite
I think thats nothing cracy. The rest is pretty standard i think. Made a little Video of the problem. Youll find it here:

I hope you feel with me now

Re: Nord Rack 2 +Logic X: Recording Problem
You need to enable the monitoring of outgoing MIDI ports, by default the MIDI monitor only shows inbound data.
PS: seen the video, pretty weird ... What if you play and record the NL2r audio "live" i.e.not triggered by the MIDI track?

Okokok ! Nice. So this what it shows.
It seems to send a note to every of my midi devices (oxygen and lpd8 are just controllers). I dont why he does that but we are getting closer to the solution i think

Re: Nord Rack 2 +Logic X: Recording Problem
Just noticed that the normal midi (the melody) sends on channel 1 and the evil signal on channel 2. Is there a way of de-activating a channel in the NR ? Maybe that would be a solution...

Re: Nord Rack 2 +Logic X: Recording Problem
The solution would rather be to understand why is Logic sending that stuff.... however I think/hope that you can change the MIDI settings of NL2r so that it will not "listen" to Ch2: check what the manual says about NL2 parts (slots) and MIDI parameters

Re: Nord Rack 2 +Logic X: Recording Problem
Whoooooo i fixed it !!! So for everyone whos got the same problem: You have to turn off your other programm slots, since they get triggered by logic for (still) unknown reasons.
So heres how to do it:
1. Press Shift- MIDI CH
2. Then Press B (light should flash)
3. Set the channel to off (via the arrow keys)
(4. Repeat for C and D)
Thanks for the help everyone and especially you maxpiano

Couldn't agree more on that one, Max.
Note that there is a difference between how keyed versions and racked versions of Nord synths behave. On a keyed version, only Slots whose respective LED lights are illuminated will respond to played notes. On racked versions, slots will ALWAYS respond to midi data arriving on its set channel. So, yes, setting the midi channels of slots which you do not intend to use to OFF (or any other channel which may be dormant) will prevent these things from occurring.
But the real problem is Logic sending this rogue data. If you don't fix that, you may someday find other sets of rogue data showing up in unwanted places and not know what to do about it.
Bless,
Pablo
