Nord's classical Virtual Analog Synth Nord LEAD 1/2/2x/3/4/A1 and Nord Rack versions

New A1 owner

Postby koloman » 10 Sep 2017, 16:27

I am since a few days proud owner of a Nord Lead A1. Tried until now only a few of the preloaded sounds. Sounds very nice.
I had to made a decision to exchange my Nord Stage 2 with the new Nord Stage 3 or to add a second Synth-Keyboard. The decision was also influenced by the add on price I would have to add, but also to have a lightweight (4,5 kg) instrument to carry around if the Stage features are not needed.
Nice to be now in 2 communities in this remarkable forum! Thanks to all the people who have made this forum happen and manage now this fantastic website.

I am a new A1 owner as well. I have been programming this machine for two days, and this is one beautiful sounding synthesizer. It is extremely easy to get close to the sound you want quickly, and tweak it from there. It has a very rich sound, and you can get great results out of a single slot. It is well-designed, well implemented, and easy to understand. I have been programming synths for over 30 years, and I can tell you that the A1 is unique in its approach. The engine can emulate analog sounds with ease. In fact, it is actually easier to program than my Prophet 6, which is pretty straightforward.

Add the fact that it weighs 10 pounds and is built like a tank. Yes, the keybed could be much better, but it is usable, and the morphing capabilities can get around the lack of aftertouch.

I am looking into the possibility of replacing the TP7 with a TP 8/9 as that might be possible.

The A1 sounds fantastic.

Without it's stupid limitations, I wouldn't have sold the A1. Soundwhise it is absoultely amazing in terms of classic analog sounds.

Yeah, it is the sound (and weight) that hooked me on it. It just sounds rich. It is a new take on subtractive synthesis for sure, but after a few days of programming, I feel at home with it.

I just couldn't live with global vibrato settings, fixed upper/lower system and the really bad keybed. Also I missed a few parameters in the FX section. For studio usage this doesn't matter that much, but for live usage it's a real bummer.

I have been A/B ing the A1 with the Virus TI all day and I can tell you the A1 sounds just as good or better. It can do a better rendition of a smooth moog bass than the Virus
Might be bye bye to my old Virus of ten years and hello to an OB-6 to accompany the A1

The OB-6 would compliment it nicely as would the Prophet-6 and Prophet-rev2 desktops, as would a Nord Rack 3. :-)

The Virus is not even close in terms of classic analog sounds.
