Hai
I have a question with regard to the sustain pedal that came with the NORD stage 2 ex. I think something is reversed: the sustain is on when I do not touch the pedal and when I press it the sustain stops. In the menu I have the setting turned to ‘auto’. When I switch it to open then it does the same. When I use the pedal on a different midi keyboard, the same thing happens? Does anyone understand this? I think I have to switch something in the pedal itself. But how?
Thanks for your help in advance!

Re: trouble with sustain pedal
I've seen this once when I accidentally rested my foot on the pedal as I turned the Stage on. I think the auto setting kicks in when the device is started up, in order to determine which electrical state should be No Pedal.
Which also means that flipping the switch under the pedal itself will not matter as long as the Settings is set to Auto...
Just an idea.

Re: trouble with sustain pedal
Check the System menu settings for sustain pedal and ensure it is set to Auto, then switch your NS off/on withouth touching the pedal while you do that.

Re: trouble with sustain pedal
hai
thanks for the response. Unfortunately none of the tips work. Indeed when I put the Nord in auto mode (it then selects auto=closed), or when I use the closed setting then the pedal 'works fine'. However it is of course an open pedal. so somehow the polarity got reversed? when I use it on another midi keyboard (which I cannot change) the problem is big. Someone know how to solve this problem? There is no switch in the pedal (I even unscrewed the bottom for this purpose)
help?

Re: trouble with sustain pedal
If there is no switch the "polarity" (actually the switch type) cannot be changed. Have you tried to check if it is actually an open type, using a multimeter? Maybe it is actually a Closed one. Or see if you can try with a different pedal (friend's or at a store). Or leave it in Closed mode and be happy till it works.

Re: trouble with sustain pedal
The way the AUTO function works is: when powering up the waking instrument scans the the pedal circuit looking for a pedal. It then sets itself according to what it "sees." This works great EXCEPT that the pedal MUST be connected to the instrument prior to be powered up. Also, as noted above, if you happen to have your foot on the pedal during boot, the instrument will be tricked into thinking that the pedal is the opposite of what it really is.
To avoid these confusions, it is best to go into the System Menu and set the pedal correctly, open or closed, and leave it there. No more problems...
Bless, Pablo

Re: trouble with sustain pedal
thanks again!
still no fix.... I tried all of the above solutions. somehow the (factory-included) Nord pedal got somehow its polarity reversed ??.. it functions as a closed pedal, while it used to be an open pedal. All the changes in the menu cannot hide the fact that the pedal itself is changed??? ideas? thoughts? I don't understand it.

Re: trouble with sustain pedal
Quick question did you buy your NS2 and so its pedal as new or used?
The pedal supplied by Nord is made by Fatar, it is a VFP1 model which is available in both types, normally Open (VFP1-10) or normally Closed (VFP1-15) http://www.fatar.com/pages/vfp1.htm
It is possible that, since NS2 can work with both models, sometimes they provide either type... just guessing... anyway it works as Closed on your NS2, right?
So then, what's the issue? Your NS2 pedal works with the NS2,fact; if you need a normally open for your other keyboards, just get one, better if switchable (which is what I personally did, as the cost is so low that is better anyway to have 2)

Re: trouble with sustain pedal
yes, if it is a normally closed type pedal, set the Nord to CLOSED and problem solved...
