Lead 1 Rack - Help with Factory Sounds
Just picked up a Lead 1 Rack. Read the manual cover to cover twice. I can't figure out how to get the Factory Settings Programs to work. I scroll through them hit the keyboard and nothing, zip, nada! except for the same wimpy sound out of all of them 1-99. The factory performances A0 through G4 work and sound great. This is a thick sounding unit and I need the factory settings programs.

Re: Lead 1 Rack - Help with Factory Sounds
Hi,
Memory Protect is OFF?
did you do a SysEX Bulk Dump for each bank?
Memory Protect is OFF?
did you do a SysEX Bulk Dump for each bank?
On a side note, if you use it in a DAW such as Cakewalk or Cubase, are you able to access the sounds? (E.g. if you use the attached instrument definition files txt for Cubase, ins for Cakewalk)To receive a Bulk Dump, proceed as follows:
1. Connect a cable from MIDI Out on the transmitting device to MIDI IN on the Nord Lead 2X.
2. If you are about to receive a complete Bank, you need to scroll to a number in the Bank (Program or
Performance Bank) you want to replace with the received Bank.
3. Initiate the transmission on the transmitting device.
If the dump contained a complete Bank, it will take the place of the selected Bank in the Nord Lead 2X.
If the dump contained one Program/Performance only, this will be put in the “edit buffer” of the active
Slot, instead of the Program/Performance you were playing. However, it is not saved permanently. To
save it, use Store as described on page 23 and page 35. Note that any Percussion Kits in a Performance,
will only be included as “references” when you dump the Performance.

Johannes:
Thanks for taking the time to respond. My unit is the rack version of the Lead Classic. It is not a 2, 2x or 3. I think the original factory sounds Are not where they are supposed to be. However I discovered that the first 40 of the original 99 sounds are saved in one of the performance banks. The manual explains how to extract the sounds and save them in their default positions. Regarding memory protect, sysex bulk dump I don't understand what that is as I am somewhat of a noob and the manual is not all that clear. I will reread the manual and perhaps things will clear up a bit.

Re: Lead 1 Rack - Help with Factory Sounds
No problem.
First you should check that memory protect is off (see the manual). Sysex is a file format that allows midi devices to transfer proprietary data such as patches.
For the Nord Lead, there is a nice tool to edit, download and store patches: http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/02 ... or_Editor/
Then, on the manual on Page 108 is described how to reset programs 1-40.
For a COMPLETE Factory reset I would go the Sysex way:
1) depending on your OS get a Sysex capable software (basically, a Midi player that allows to "play" sysex files. Routet to your Nord Lead, it will send the factory preset to your Synth. May I suggest MIDI-OX (Windows) or Sysex Librarian (MAC)? can both be found here: http://g-force.info/sysex.htm
2) Get the appropriate Sysex File (from the Nord Site: http://www.nordkeyboards.com/downloads/ ... rchive.zip ) or the attached File.
Load the File in the MIDI program, select your Midi Interface as OUT and play the Sysex File and your Lead should be like new. (Be sure to make a backup before if you want to keep some of your patches!!)
The exact setup depends on your MIDI interface, Operation System, Midi Program Used etc. so its hard to give precise instructions. But if you are used to MIDI, it should not be a problem. In fact, many DAWs like Cubase can also be used to playback Sysex Files (sometimes a Sysex Filter or so has to be deactivated).
Good luck!

Re: Lead 1 Rack - Help with Factory Sounds
Update: I discovered the factory sounds are still were they are supposed to be. I was messing around with the unit and discovered the midi channels for the memory slots were all jacked up. Alas once I rest the first slot to midi channel 1, all the factory sounds played perfectly. Now I am trying to figure out the proper midi configuration for the 4 memory slots, whether they should be set to midi 1-4 respectively, or all set to midi ch. 1, or some other configuration and of course setting up the midi controller.

Re: Lead 1 Rack - Help with Factory Sounds
Hello,
I own a nord lead1 keyboard, but i don't have any factory presets. I have only one same library on the 4 banks, no performance (only A0, and nothing inside), no demo too. Since few weeks i'm looking to load the factory presets (4 library, if i understood well). I read many times the manual, websites, made many tries with sysex librarian (i'm on macOs) but i don't success to dump anything... Is there someone to help me, and give me the detailled instruction to success? I'm using 10.5.8 mac os, with a Mbox2pro and my Nord lead has 1.03 os. (i saw nothing on the manual about memory protect...) Also is there somewhere a battery for the memory? Many thanks

Re: Lead 1 Rack - Help with Factory Sounds
If I remember correctly you have got to select the right MIDI channel. I think this might be channel 16. I remember that there is something very simple to do, that is NOT described in the manual. When I had a Nord Lead 2 I had the same problem at first and got help in this forum: http://electro-music.com/forum/

Re: Lead 1 Rack - Help with Factory Sounds
Concerning the factory presets: there are no presets dedicated to a special type, because all factory presets are NL1. You will not find a preset using the RingModulator nor Distortion in use. The same goes for the cards. Only in the NL2X they made some changes in the new memory banks, which also includes the Secret Filter.
The Pelle mode is only in the NL1 and NL2, but that is to be seen as a special synthesizer without a memory mode.

Re: Lead 1 Rack - Help with Factory Sounds
Thank's for answering men. three other "nut" questions: - i read somewhere that i have to put local mode "off" to transfer datas, is it right?
- also why does clavia giving 4 sounds library for nord lead 1 within 3 banks and 1 perf bank? have i to dump all 3 banks or 1 is enough
- what is the difference between a "lib" and a "bank"?
I'm sorry, i really think that i'm a nut...
