Cindi Lauper - Girls Just Want to Have Fun
Does anyone have patches for Girls Just Want to Have Fun?
My understanding is that the original was chords on a vox organ with an echo and the solo (which has a sound much like "Popcorn") was done on a Roland Juno-60.

I got pretty close with a transistor organ patch on my non-Nord (easier to do the slide intro on non-weighted keys) and a single-shot delay. Shouldn't be too hard to create if no-one has one, just got to get the timing on the delay right and hope the drummer doesn't start it way too fast or slow.

Not sure if you can on the Electro, but on the NS2 you can sync the delay to the MIDI clock, which takes the guesswork out of it (assuming your drummer has a good feel for tempo)Cornopean wrote:I got pretty close with a transistor organ patch on my non-Nord (easier to do the slide intro on non-weighted keys) and a single-shot delay. And now for something completely different...

I doubt it on my electro but maybe on the Yamaha. I just ended up (on my Motif-lite) playing with the delay until it sounded right, its settings were something like "sixteenth note" so that implies a relationship to a tempo setting. I note the original poster has a Piano 2 - presumably he has upgraded?

I own a Piano 2 but I do some setup volunteering for a school with a Stage 2 and this is for them. The hard part is that I have to go in and use their Stage 2 to setup patches so it's hard to spend hours working things out.

OK, here is a patch for this song.
The main transistor organ is on the left side of the split. It is set to the tempo of the record, but you must play staccato on the upbeat of every other beat to make is sound right. If you hold the keys down too long, the delay won't be tight.
The right hand side of the split is the "popcorn" solo. To get the flutter effect later in the solo, just turn the Arpeggiator on. No samples used at all.
Hope this helps you get through the wedding!
