Nord Lead A1 feature wish: slot tuning.

Post by curvebender »

Hi all,

I would love to see this feature implemented in the A1: the ability to tune slots.

As the oscillator configurations are pre-wired, I find that the A1 really shines in Performance mode, where some of the limitations in Program mode can be overcome.

But I would for example like to be able to have one sync oscillator configuration in slot A, another one in B, and then fine tune one of them to achieve variety and fullness.

What do you think?

Thanks.

Yes that is such a good idea. Single key super-chords!

Sure, super-chords, didn't even think about that!

But for me, the most important benefit would be the ability to introduce subtle (and not so subtle) pitch variations when layering programs that don't use the pitch oscillator configurations.

I'm sure it could be implemented in typical slick Nord Lead fashion, and that it wouldn't eat processor resources.

Funny, I accidentally (well..) stumbled upon a review of the Nord Stage 2, and it mentioned the slot detuning capabilities of the NS2!

Come on Clavia, you know you can do it! :-)

Why is it not implemented yet? Multi-Focus with all 4 oscillators at the same pitch produces a headache. Come on Clavia, the A1 still is being sold new and it would improve so much by detunable slots! Or is there a known work-around on the synth?

Simplest idea to implement: Select slot in performance mode, press both octave shift buttons the same time to access detune.

Not sure what the problem is. The A1 allows pitch detuning per slot if you choose "Pit" in the OSC configuration. This way you can easily have 4 tunable oscillators in a performance (one oscillator per slot). It took me a while to find out but it works well for really fat sounds.

Yes its perfectly achievable like above, but I think what the OP is trying to say is there should be an actual Detune option like on the Stage 2 although this only works on the piano section though in S2 you select two pianos(one per slot) and then detune between them in a global fashion this would be ideal for each slot in the A1 Synth rather than having to use the Pitch option in each osc configuration to achieve it.

I use a method with the NL4,using the second oscillator only in each slot, and simply detune each slot against the others using the Fine tune knob, very effective on pad type sounds.

The detune oscillator works fine, even in only one slot, but it is very limited. Problem is huge if you stack different oscillator models or "instruments" in different slots. The whole idea of playing 4 slots with different sounds gets a bit boring if all have always the exact same pitch. I really don't get it why you can't detune different sounds to each other in multi mode on the A1.
