Sustain pedal

Post by hensleyj381 »

My sustain pedal is not consistently working with my nord stage 2. Sometimes it works, but most of the time it does not. I always make sure the sounds have the sustain button on and i have checked the pedal with another keyboard to make sure that it is still good. Also, when it is not working, if i unplug the pedal and then plug it back it while the keyboard is still on, it will sustain every note without me pressing the pedal until I change the sound.

Thank you for your response. That does not seem to be the issue. When it is not working, the pedal is not working as sustain or damper. It is like it is not even active. And then when i unplug it and plug it back in, it sustains every note rather I press the pedal or not and then goes back to not working at all when I change sounds. I have also already tried holding down the pedal while it is booting.

Have you checked the system settings to ensure the correct pedal type (Open/Closed) is selected? Which brand and model is your pedal?

Broken cable? Use a tester to see if it actually works.

Yes I have checked open/closed. And I'm assuming the cable is good because it works with other keyboards. Thanks for the responses, I'm getting kind of nervous because I just bought this nord and am starting to feel like something is wrong with it.

Hi Hensley,

What brand/model pedal are you using? Does its cable terminate in a TS/mono connector or a TRS/stereo connector? Most sustain pedals use TS, but in recent times some makers have been adding half-pedaling capability to their designs and for this a pedal equipped with TRS is needed. A TRS type pedal will not necessarily work with your instrument. The Nord Triple Pedal uses TRS, but there is no guarantee that the Nord TP design will coincide with that of some other maker (probably won't). Unless you have Nord TP you must use ordinary TS-style pedal with your NS2.

FYI, the factory default setting for sustain pedal type on your NS2 is AUTO. When set to AUTO, the instrument will scan the sustain pedal connection looking for a pedal and set itself according to what it finds there. This REQUIRES that the pedal be connected prior to powering up the instrument. If you sometimes have the pedal connected before booting and other times not, this will yield irregular results and can fool you into thinking that there is something wrong with your instrument.

Please give us some detail about this pedal you are using and the discussion will continue...

Bless,

Pablo

I have tried multiple pedals and they all work for a little bit and then stop working. One is a live wire solutions LWS-250. I don't have the other 2 with me right now, but I will check later. Thanks for your help guys. Could it be possible that the Nord is causing the pedals to go bad?

That pedal is an ordinary generic sustain pedal and should work. No, it is not possible that the Nord is causing pedal to go bad. Perhaps there is an intermittent open in the pedal connector on the Nord. These things are subject to damage from folks stepping on cables, but usually if this occurs there will be visible evidence of this on the connector -- bits of plastic will be broken away. I am located in Texas and would love anymore help I can get on this. It is like the Nord just stop recognizing the pedals I plug in.
