Setting an E4HP Grand Piano Sound

Post by Invisiband »

Hey-
I love my new Nord. I've been adventurous in setting my sounds, but I've never fully understood the Equalizer, & how sometimes I can't seem to get the overtones out of the mix. I just want as real as possible a Grand Piano sound. Does anyone know what may be the best settings for the Equalizer, Effects 1, Effects 2, and Spkr Comp?
also, has anyone switched out the existing pianos for other ones that they like better?
Thanks!

I've always had great luck on the Nord Piano (same samples) with no eq, no effects and no compression. Maybe -- just maybe -- a little reverb. The samples are that good.

Your question makes me think this is more of an amplification issue -- what are using for amplification? If you're trying to compensate for substandard amplification by dialing up various effects, you're not going to be happy.

Have you tried headphones to audition the samples and settings? Amplifying the pianos can be tricky, and they sound much better in stereo.

Yes, I primarily use the Italian grand and the grand upright samples (i believe these are the most popular ones here at the forum). They are good enough to not require any eq or other effects when playing solo in headphones.

But if you play in amplifiers and/or in a band or other mix, you will need to use eq to balance the sound. In a live band context, you typically need to lower the bass, turn up the treble and add some compression. And most importantly, always use stereo amplification!

Good luck!

Yeah, headphones are wonderful. Getting the live sound right is tough.

I'm using a Traynor Stereo Keys Amp.

This is totally different from what's discussed here, and especially if this is really related to a Stage 3 I first of all suggest you open a new thread. You will get more helpful replies on a new topic I guess.

Then: in the new thread let us know more details about how you are listening, like through headphones or external speakers, how you connect it and how your output routing looks like
