Nord Lead 2X--Send MIDI note only?

Post by Ledbetter »

I would like to send only MIDI note information to an Electro 4 from the 2X. I don't want to send control pedal or sustain pedal infomation, but I would like to use those pedals on the 2X while NOT sending the pedal information over MIDI. Any way to do this?

I have set the global channels to: Lead 2X--Ch. 3, Electro 4--Ch.1, but when I set the slot channel to Ch. 1, the pedal information is transmitted along with the note information.

I have set Control to OFF in the special menu, but the pedal information is still sent. Also, when I power cycle the Lead 2X, the setting reverts to "ON," which does not seem right.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. :thanx:

Interesting question! Perhaps you are running into a dead end street? Sorry! :(

The manual says ...

p 66: "When you turn on power, the instrument is always in MIDI Local On mode." Or you have no control of it?

p 77: "For the Nord Lead 2X to transmit and receive Control change messages from the front panel this must
be activated, see page 66 . Modulation Wheel and pedal, however, are always transmitted/received."

That's what I'm finding. No luck so far.. Maybe I'll try controlling the 2X from the Electro.

You could achieve this with a device in between the 2 kbds such a MIDI filter or with a computer + MIDI-OX.

Yes, I've thought of a MIDI filter. Interestingly, I'm thinking that putting a cable between the Electro's MIDI through port to the 2X's MIDI in would turn the 2X's "control" pedal into an expression pedal, since the Electro reads the control pedal as gain and the 2X does not. 2X local control set to "off."

Local Control reverts to ON automatically after every reboot in order to avoid having folks forget that it's OFF and thinking that their Nord is broken. Save people like me lots of tech support inquiries...

Filter is the only way I can think of to get you where you want to go. It'd be a drag to carry and setup computer just for that, but Midi-Ox would do it.

Better solution would be Digital Music Corp MX-8 Midi Router/Processor, a 1U device. They stopped making them more than 20 years ago, but they're really great units, strong like bull, very versatile. In recent years I've seen them in profusion on ebay for as little as $40 or so, though none there now except for someone in LA (Louisiana) who apparently thinks they're worth $250 and one in OZ for AU$125.

Voodoo Lab is the descendant company from DMC and publishes an MX-8 manual on their website. There's an easy filter function which will strip out cc data while allowing notes to pass. Exactly what the DR ordered!

Bless,

Pablo

It is not local control that is resetting, it is the menu choice for "Controller" MIDI info. See page 63 of the manual. The choices are program change, controller and arpeggiator. Controller resets to on upon reboot, which does not seem right. Program change and arpeggiator settings are retained.
