A few questions, NE4 HP

Post by yinyang »

Hello, I've been enjoying my new Electro 4 [HP] for the last few months - it's my first serious digital piano/keyboard - what a delight! I've had a bunch of basic questions so here's a few to start :) Sorry if it's lengthy, and I appreciate if anyone takes a crack at responding to any or all. I figured this was easier than making several threads:

1.) Is it possible to load sounds into the Live buffer even when the Live mode (led indicator) is off? For example, I'm playing around and find a sound I like, and want to save it to one of the four Live buffer buttons, can it be done? The manual suggests, "you can also store programs into the Live memory location, in which case the program settings will replace the current Live memory settings." but doesn't say how; then again, I'm not sure if that is referring to what I'm trying to achieve.

2.) The Sound Manager program that comes with the piano is fantastic because it let's you see a name/label for each of the factory programs - all of which I don't plan on changing any time soon. Is there an online list that shows these? For example, if I had 24.2 selected on the piano's Programs, I'd like to see what instrument that was intended to be (obviously the factory/default would only be possible because everyone's is different, but that's all I'm after). If not, is there a way to print out your current setup from the Sound Manager?

3.) The Nord gear bag I got is very tight when transferring the piano. It fits, but it seems like the zipper is under tremendous stress. After maybe a dozen transfers the corners of the zippers already show some signs of wear/warping of the zipper (I'm pretty delicate with it too haha, it's just very right getting it into the bag). Is this normal, or should I be following up with the store I bought it from? Perhaps I should just not worry about it?

4.) Can I obtain my own custom sounds, say from a synthesizer sample, and load them into the Sound Manager? I realize this will sound a bit naive to many if you here, I'm still very new to the programs that come with the piano.

Thanks!

Hi Yinyang,

Welcome to the forum and the world of Nord. :-)

1) Storing to Live locations is the same as storing anywhere else: hit the STORE button once, then navigate to desired destination location and hit the STORE button again. You may ultimately find that you will prefer using regular program locations more than the Live locations because the Live locations are more fluid and you may want your faves to be more stable.

2) Lists of onboard sounds can be uploaded to your computer hard drive from within Nord Sound Manager for printing or other purposes.

3) You may wish to ensure that you have the correct bag. The HPs are slightly larger than the SW73 model and it may be that you have the SW73 bag. The bag for that instrument is the same as the HA76 bag. Perhaps you got the wrong one? You will want to contact your dealer about that.

4) The specific thrust of your question is not 100% clear to me, but you have several options available to you. Firstly, you can choose to populate both your Piano and Sample memory areas however you see fit. Nord provides ample selections of candidate sounds in their v5 Piano and Sample libraries respectively. Beyond that, you also have the ability to author .nsmp files using Nord Sample Editor and the .wav files of your choosing. These can be sourced from literally anywhere, from internet vendors to forum member posts to recordings you might make in your home studio or on the street.

Hello!
Just my input on the soft case question: I have the 4HP and my soft case is not tight at all! I have used it for weekly rehearsals for almost two years and there are no problems with wear and tear. So, I guess you have the wrong case?

Thanks for the response guys! A quick follow-up question for Pablo:

I tried this but it doesn't seem to be working. Let me make sure i'm understanding:

1. Live mode is off.
2. I navigate to the sounds I want.
3. "hit the STORE button once"
4. "then navigate to desired destination location" (assuming this means pressing one the 4 Live/Program buttons)
5. "hit the STORE button again"
6. Turn Live mode on.. program isn't stored in the Live button :(

Am I following that correctly? Sorry if I've misunderstood and thanks again.
