Assigning two instruments on split keyboard
Some help appreciated please. I have tried to follow the instructions in the manual but am just not getting the two instrument split that I want.
The instruments are already in the program banks and I want to set up a simple Synth Bass for lower split and organ for mid/hi.
I can get so far then loose the split function and end up with only one instrument sound.
I have updated my OS to 1.72
Many thanks

Re: Assigning two instruments on split keyboard
Hi John
I tried same last night with string synth in lower split and and chimes in higher, following instruction manual. After a few hours I gave it a rest as I also ended up with one instrument sound. I too would like some help with this if anyone can give any pointers. Best of luck with it!

Re: Assigning two instruments on split keyboard
I've given up for the night, too frustrated. No doubt it will be something unbelievably simple that the manual assumes that we know.
Will pick up on the thread tomorrow.

Re: Assigning two instruments on split keyboard
You cannot split between two different Programs, you need to build a new Program which includes the split.
In your example (Synth Bass +Organ) try and do the following:
1) select the Synth Bass program that you want to use
2) activate the KB Zones (2) and set the split point
3) set the Synth section(s if both Slot A and B are being used) to the LO zone
4) activate the Organ section and set it to the UP+HI zone
Done
PS: check also in the manual how to copy Slots across programs (holding the appropriate Slot button and selecting where to copy from); this may help if you wan t to try and merge complex Prigrams, but remembe that the total number of Sections used cannot exceed the available ones.
This means, for example, that you cannot merge two Programs if both use more than 1 Synth section each, etc...

Re: Assigning two instruments on split keyboard
Max.
Parts 1,2,and 3, OK.
The organ I want to activate is a preset that I have in a programme bank. WHen I activate Organ section then use bank keys and dial to locate the organ sound, thats where it goes wrong

Re: Assigning two instruments on split keyboard
This won't work because as soon as you switch to a second program (to find your organ sound) you will lose the edits (split etc) you have just made in the first program. In order to do what you want, you have to get the organ sound you want into the first program *before* making your split.john_sands wrote:WHen I activate Organ section then use bank keys and dial to locate the organ sound, thats where it goes wrong
You can do this in two different ways:
1. You can simply make a note of the organ settings and then just replicate it by hand in the first program.
Or
2. You can use the Slot copy function to copy the Slot containing the organ sound you want into the first program. Then save the program with the organ sound now in it. You can now set up the split you want.
Where you're misunderstanding Maxpiano is here:
Maxpiano is referring to the organ section in the same ie first program, not to the organ section in a different program.maxpiano wrote: 4) activate the Organ section and set it to the UP+HI zone

Re: Assigning two instruments on split keyboard
There is a somewhat common misconception that if one has two favorite programs which she/he would like to merge into a split, the way to do it is by loading favorite #1 into Slot A and then loading favorite #2 into Slot B. This will not work.
Slots are not capable of holding programs -- Slots are component parts of a program.
A program always consists of complete settings for two complete slots. Even if a Slot is disabled, its settings are still there, lurking in the shadows, waiting to be enabled. Similarly, settings for each individual instrument section within each slot are still there even if disabled.
(NOTE TO ELECTRO USERS: this goes for you, too, with respect to Organ Mode and Piano Mode. Both are always there in each program, one active and one inactive.)
This is elementary for people who have become familiar with Nord design and perhaps a bit strange for those who haven't. I strongly suspect that this misconception has its roots in people's brains having become conditioned to thinking a certain way by having worked with Asian and American keyboard instruments for years. Sudden exposure to Swedish design thought processes can as a result seem foreign. Not to worry, all will soon be clear, and you'll wonder how/why anyone ever did it any other way.
To create your split program containing your two favorite sounds, begin by first selecting the program which contains the more complex of the two sounds. By using that program as your starting point, you minimize the amount of work needed, because the hardest part is already done.
Then hit the Split 2 button and reassign the fave #1 voices to the desired zone. Then replicate the settings of the other fave program into the current program -- turn on whichever sections need to be turned on, assign to desired zone, set octave shifts for everything, sust ped and pstick response settings, effects, etc. and when you're done STORE the program to a new location. Not a bad idea to perform that STORE operation a few times along the way as you go...
The replication of those settings can be done by jotting them down on paper (okay, so I'm old skool). The Slot Copy function can in some instances be useful, but note that it copies ALL of a slot and overwrites ALL of the prior slot settings. If your fave #1 uses both slots to achieve its sound output, using the Slot Copy function to transfer fave #2 settings to this program will necessarily overwrite a portion of the fave #1 sound, which is two steps forward and one step backward -- obviously NOT what you want to do.
When engaged in intensive program authoring sessions, is can be a good idea to "clear out" a workspace with some elbow room -- delete a bunch of unneeded programs. Then one can make copies of the various "faves" into that space for ease of workflow, especially if you wish to make use of the Slot Copy function, which is much friendlier if everything is grouped close together.
Bless,
Pablo
