Nord instrument as a sound module
Nord instrument as a sound module
Hi,
This is a general question regarding the use of MIDI with Nord's instrument. I have a Wave and would like to use it as a sound module controlled by Pro tools. So: writing MIDI data in Pro tools and then getting the sound from the Wave (just like I would do with any virtual instrument in Pro tools). I'm not interested in playing the Wave, just use its sounds...
(1) What would be the configuration? Do I need both IN and OUT cable, or just OUT from Pro tools to In in Wave?
(2) How do I actually record the sound from the Wave? Do I need audio cables from the Wave to Pro tools as well? I mean, MIDI cables do not carry audio signals, right? I guess I'm not sure how does MIDI exactly work in this case.
Thanks a lot!

Re: Nord instrument as a sound module
1) one cable is enough into the IN of the wave...though you will probably use a usb to midi cable from the computer, anyway, right? in which case,be careful of which plug you plug into midi, sometimes they are labelled opposite of what you think,
2') you are correct, midi is not audio, so you will need to connect the waves outs to the line in or mic in of the pro tools host.

Re: Nord instrument as a sound module
MIDI is like sheet music: it merely says whatever notes are to be played by which instruments, when.
It carries no sound itself, only information about how it is to be produced, by whom.

The Nord giveth; the Nord taketh away…

Hi Analogika (nice name!)
Thanks. So I managed to send MIDI data from Pro Tools to Wave, and I get the Wave's sound. That's good. Now my question is: can I have like 10 tracks in Pro tools (or any other DAW...I'm trying to understand the concept here) all are MIDI track sending data to Wave, and get 10 different sounds out of Wave. Or, am I limited to only two sounds at the same time, much like playing the Wave live as a keyboard?
Thanks!

Re: Nord instrument as a sound module
two at a time, but you can record those two midi tracks into audio tracks and then go back to lay two more...
