Alesis perc pad........?

Post by andre99 »

Hi, again I'm sure this has been covered in depth but does anyone use the alesis perc pad as a trigger for the drum machine and if so what do you think about it? Does it work, latency issues easy to set up???
Also, why is the new Nord pad not compatible with the drum machine? Is this a very cheeky move to get people to want to upgrade to version 2 or am I missing something?
Thanks Andre

Hi again,

About the Nord Pad, I don't know of course, perhaps partly strategic, but perhaps also a way to keep things as simple and light-weight as possible;
I think it is not much more than 6 regular pads (piezos in disguise?) sending their signal thru a relatively very compact RJ45 (?) common internet cable,
when you want the Pad to send MIDI they'd have to put some electronics in I guess, and then users might want to change the MIDI notes sent by the pads, so you'll need a display..

I don't know if it is possible but perhaps someday someone will make a little box that has the internet socket on one end and 6 jack outputs on the other, then you'd be able to connect it with ND1, or any other drum brain,
(and in that way even convert the signals into MIDI if required)

About the PercPad:
I did find some critisism: according to this video it has the same problem as the ControlPad:
(has to do with their way of trying to supress crosstalk between pads)

Perhaps someone here can tell from his own experience how bad the problem really is?!

I think 'Beardy Jack' has one:

Hey there!
Haven't been here for a bit...
The alesis Percpad is brilliant in my experience, flams rolls, velocity is spot on. I personally have never experienced accidental triggering or cross trigging from any of the pads. I'd recommend the alesis, very cheap and compact and can be played with fingers no problem.
Setting it up takes literally seconds, just put the ND in midi channel learn mode, hit a pad, then go to midi note learn and match the pads up with whichever channel you wish. I timed it once but can't remember, it's under 40 seconds though I think! Easy peasy!

Go for it, it's the cheapest option I think. It's inbuilt sounds are poor, the alesis sample pad is similar but I think it only holds 1 sample at a time (pfff) though it is a better colour!
