NORD DRUM2 and PAD info at mothership!

Post by wartaler »

YEAH! New product page dedicated to the new ND2 and Pad at Clavia site !

Some highlights:

- Resonant Synthesis / Subtractive Synthesis / FM Synthesis*
- Stereo, and of course Headphones-output!
- FX: Drive/bit-crush, and EQ per channel,
- The majority of the Nord Drum 2 sound parameters can be controlled via CC-controls over MIDI*
- The handy Group Edit mode let’s you create a group of up to 6 channels that can then be edited simultaneously
a relief for your fingers when you quickly want to edit a set of tuned percussion, or tom sounds at once! + a nice effect while playing!

the next were nice surprises, (to me at least) :

- "The Mute Group gives you the option to create sounds that can cancel each other out." - a great new feature I think, which allows hi-hat and triangle open/close type of playing!!
- Special Attack options in the Noise Section - "..brilliant for shaker-like sounds or perhaps a reversed reverb type of effect (..) from handclaps to strange, rattling percussive sounds"
- Repeat effect (sort of MIDI delay) - with tempo set globally, amount can be set per channel, really nice!

Well, too many cool new things, and before I simply repeat everything from the site here, just go to http://www.nordkeyboards.com/main.asp?t ... ord_Drum_2 .. and listen to the demos!

I already pre-ordered one, I can't wait - I'm really looking forward!!

Albert

*it says on the website these features will come with software update!

At last!
Some nice sounds in the demos, sounds punchier to me, but that could be the new 'parameters'! EQ per channel!
Can't wait for this beauty to land, still no manual though. I also noticed the midi cc will be introduced via an update.

We are so close now...

btw ...
you can already download the manual - but no info yet about the CC control, and FM in there as these features will be added later with a software update

In this version of the manual the number of trigger types that can be selected is also limited to 2 types: Roland/Yam. rubber pads, hopefully that's just a matter of updating the software, or the manual

looking forward!

Hey!
Excellent, thanks very much @wartaler for the heads up on the porn/manual! Since it doesn't have a link on the page under the demos I presumed incorrectly.
I can't wait for this! Since the first info on the ND2 the model has undergone some changes, most notably the labels for the juicy functions, eq, repeat etc. Nice surprise all that, the eq alone is mindbendingly useful, I'm so happy!

The pad is also a joy to see, looks so compact and the single cable is straight from outer space!
A geek's dream and nightmare all in one! Got to have it for completion, and a set of those Vic Firth Nova Red sticks!
Now for the shirt and tie so I can pretend to be Wolfgang Flur!

Not long I hope mr postman!

Oh dear!
I've perused the manual and was very disappointed to see no midi learn function for setting channel and note number. I use this feature a lot since the ND is the slut in my bunker and gets abused by different equipment.
I only hope it is introduced again when the midi cc update lands!

Still looks great though, lots of exploration.

I'm curious what others use for drum machine hardware and software.

I have ableton but always looking for recommendations on ways to create beats that are easy, flexible and sound good.

I downloaded the nord beat 2 (NB2) app and hooked it up to my nord drum and arturia minibrute.

The NB2 will send midi clock to the minibrute but only directly and not via the midi out on the nord drum (as in chain: NB2>nord drum>mini brute). Is the nord drum not sending midi cock; is this feature improved on the nord drum 2?

Also, I could not get NB2 to recognise midi clock (acting as the slave) from other synths. I have iRig and another iPad accessory for ipad to midi (all working fine).

What am I doing wrong?

Normally you need Midi thru connector to make this. Does it send out those midi notes that iRig sends to ND's midi in? If it does, even this surprise to me... It seems to me minibrute hasn't midi thru either, so perhaps best (and only?) way to make it is to have a midi interface which has 2 or more midi outs. I have iConnect midi which is a marvelous product and the newest generation models (which seem to be available at the moment) are even much much better.

..question about Nord Beat is little bit off topic..you can also try using an interface with more MIDI-outputs like: camera connection kit + ESI M4U

..back to the Nord Drum2: still hasn´t arrived... :(

so while waiting, I decided to have yet another look at the videos on YouTube (I´ve only watched them a 1000 times) ;-)

I also noticed that the final version on the Clavia site is a bit different than the one at the 2013 Messe in the YouTube videos, and the images that webshops use.

The prototype (bottom picture, 'v5.0') had no EQ and Repeat options, as Beardy Jack mentioned, but did have more settings for Click: Type, Decay, Color, and Model, but the final version 'v5.3' only has Click Type and Level - the ND1 'v1.3' had Click Type and Decay/Gate settings ..

I think it makes more sense how it is set up now, and to compensate you can do a lot more with noise attack, and tone - and having EQ per channel is quite nice too!

Interesting to see the design develop, prototype perhaps has the same hardware on the inside, maybe just a matter of different labels on the panel, and different OS..
