i recognize that my new nord lead reacts different to full velocity.
When i press the keys very hard and put velocity to cutoff for example it is not always the same cutoff value i hear.
it is like 3 times the same and then 2 times another value.
Is that normal?
It should be the same sound. You can test it by sending Midi Notes with the same velocity with a software program. If you do it pressing the keys, most likely you are not achieving always the full velocity.

Alternatively, you can connect your Lead to a computer using MIDI and instead of sending MIDI from the computer to the Lead, you can send MIDI from the Lead to the computer. You can the run a program like MIDI Monitor (on a Mac) or MIDI-OX (Windows) to show you what velocities you get. Some variation is normal, but if you press the same key with what feels like the same force to you, it would be rather surprising if you get a high value (like 112) one time and a much lower value (like 70) the next time.
How much do you play and have you used a fully weighted keyboard a lot? If you play a lot, it will be easier to nail pretty much the same velocity multiple times in a row. Additionally, on a weighted keyboard it is (in my experience) easier to get a fairly consistent velocity (not that I can manage that though ).
This may be due to output routing settings. If set to Stereo for an output pair (A/B or C/D), the mono voice will bounce back and forth between outputs (A & B or C & D). If you have only one side of the pair connected to your mixer/amp, it will appear that you have these strange volume/velocity problems.
Try connecting both sides of a pair or changing the audio routing settings (OUT MODE settings, page 64 in manual) to see if this cures your problems.
In a similar fashion, my NL2x keyboard seems to send a really high or low (can't remember which) value on one of the keys when recording midi notes into Ableton, or playing a plugin. Doesn't seem to do it on the internal sounds.
Anyone has had that issue?
Is this corrected in later OS?
If so, can I easily update that to apply possible fixes without too much messing around?
Tx
That is a completely unrelated issue arising from dirt or other foreign contamination in the key contacts for that note. Needs to be opened and cleaned. Not an OS issue... There are many threads here discussing the contact cleaning operation in varying detail.
I don't know about the 2X, but I've always found the velocity response hard to control on my 2. Sometimes I get a value that I'm not expecting. The NL4 and A1 respond in a much more consistent manner. I suspect it is the software algorithm that measures the volocity on the 2 that is too sensitive, or not accurate or something. I never tried a 2X so I don't if it has the same problem though.
