Post by matthwise »

Hello. I have a Nord Piano 2 that i bought some time ago. i was checking around in the Nord sound manager and accidently pressed "restore". all the piano sounds are gone, the samples in the synth section is still there but not piano. when i try to get the piano sounds back, i can download and import 4 sounds from the Nord cd. please help me, how do i restore my samples??

The question is: are the programs gone, or are the pianos themselves gone...

If you just want to restore the Piano 2 back to it's original state, I suggest restoring the factory backup (np2b file) which is on the DVD that came with your Piano 2 (you can also download it from the Nord site - it's about 600-650 MB). If you already have your own sounds on there, this is probably not what you want.

If you turn the Piano section on and then use the Piano type select button to select one of the types (such as Grand or Upright), does that select a piano or does that show you have no pianos of that type?

If you would like to restore just your pianos, but not your samples or programs, you could copy the factory sounds (np2b) backup file (from the DVD or downloaded from the Nord site) to you computer. Change the name of the file, so it no longer ends with .np2b but with .zip . (No dot at the end, just .zip). You can then double-click that file and it'll either extract (a Mac) or you get a screen showing you the files in the backup (Windows). In the Piano directory you'll find individual directories for the types of piano (such as Grand and Upright). You can then use the Sound Manager to download these individual piano sounds to your instrument. I don't know if the original order is preserved (maybe that isn't even relevant), but if this is not the case you'll either need to 'relink' the sounds, move the piano sounds around to change their number or modify the programs that use them.

I don't have a Nord Piano myself, so can't really be of more use here, but feel free to ask more questions. Hopefully someone else will come up with a better/more helpful answer. :D

While you're at it, you might want to check you have the latest firmware and Sound Manager release. Currently that's v1.08 for the firmware and v6.26 for Sound Manager, but check the right of the Nord website for the latest versions and direct links to the downloads.
