Nord wave conections

Post by strossgodrill »

I m new user of Nord wave,my question is : If i want to record signal from Nord wave to Daw such as cubase 5 (win 7 64 bit) or audicity or soundforge what is procedure?
I instal already usb update, sampler software, nord sound manger .I read somewhere that midi interface is necessary for sending signal like Nord+midi+soundcard+computer+daw

If that is true i dont have midi interface for a moment, what is other option for record the nord wave signal to any software on computer ,,thx in advance..

You can read all about this online. Here's some info to help you on your way:

To send sound to your computer:
Nord Wave --[jack cable]--> audio interface --[usb/firewire/thunderbolt cable]--> software on your computer.
To send/receive midi from/to your computer:
Nord Wave <--[midi out/in]--> midi interface <--[usb/firewire/thunderbolt cable]--> software on your computer.

Audio interfaces often already have midi-in and -out ports. Some manufacturers you can look into are Focusrite, Apogee and Motu.

For more info: Google is your friend! :-)

You can already get one of those MIDI-over-USB cables for like 15 euro. If you have the right cable (2 x mono 6.35 mm jack to a stereo 3.5 mm jack) you could connect the Wave to your existing PC/Mac soundcard, but you'll likely get better results with a dedicated interface, such as the Focusrite 2i2 (external USB).

If you have a PC and do decide to use your 'consumer' soundcard (built into to motherboard, or something like a Creative Soundblaster), do yourself a favour and install the Asio4all drivers. Proper interfaces come with their own Asio drivers, but with the Asio4all drivers you can get much better performance (= lower latency) on cards where the vendor does not provide an Asio driver.

I have conect everything with this cables like: 2 midi cables,2 jack cables, usb cable, into soundcard brand motu audio express, and that s it. I also install all software for nord such a usb update,Nord sampler editor and nord soun manager.,And everything is conect in the same way like in example before your post and in the end ..NO SOUND. As i understand you are telling me that actualy i need a midi over usb cable for make it work?

It's probably a routing issue. Have you configured your soundcard and DAW to route audio to wherever it needs to go?

That MOTU should work just fine, that looks like a very nice interface. Like RedLeo mentiones, you might want to check your cabling/routing issue.

Since your MOTU seems to have level meters on the front, it is probably easy to verify you get a signal from the Wave; do you also get no sound if you play on the keyboard of the Wave itself?

If you get sound when you play the Wave's keyboard, there's probably a MIDI issue. MIDI out on the Wave needs to go to MIDI in on the MOTU and MIDI out on the MOTU needs to go to MIDI in on the Wave (out always goes to in). It seems the MOTU also has LEDs to show outgoing/incoming MIDI signals, should that should make debugging your issue even easier. If you press a key on the Wave (and you've got your MIDI cables connected correctly), you should see the MIDI in LED blink on the MOTU. Conversely, if you send MIDI from the MOTU to the Wave, you should see the MIDI LED on the Wave (below the main volume knob at the top-left of the Wave's control panel) blink. If it blinks but you get no sound, check in the Wave's MIDI settings if the channel you're sending on via the MOTU (set in your MIDI program) matches the channel the Wave is configured to listen to.

You have all the required bits to get this working properly, so once you figure out what the issue is, you should be golden. :keyboard2:
