At this point I prefer the Fazoli. I usually load the large size
so I don't have room for variety of pianos in the electro.
I did also like the Grand Lady D.
I do think it's kind of smart to use particular names for
particular pianoinstead of calling them by their manufacturer's name.

Re: What Acoustic Pianos do you like in ELECTRO ?
When I had the Electro 3 SW 73, I used the Studio Grand 2 and Blue Swede Upright. I recently converted to the 3HP, and find that Grand Lady D is a better grand due to the key dynamics settings of the HP. I play mostly tradtional jazz, and the ringing sustain of the Blue Swede works great with my big band and more "traditional" sounding tunes. The Grand Lady is great when I need a more elegant or biting sound. Setting a harder dynamics setting keeps the overtones at bay, while using a lighter dynamic allows me to get to the bright overtones with less effort. Combine those attributes with different EQ and reverb settings, and I have wide pallet of acoustic piano sounds from two samples.

Here is my selection for my Nord Electro 3.
The Electro 3 does not support string resonance so I loaded the small sized samples.
1. Bright Grand. I use this one in the bands. Cuts right trough the bands sound but still very dynamic.
2. Italian Grand (Faz). I use this one when playing solo piano on the Electro.
3. Blue Swede Upright. Just fantastic when an upright sound is needed!

The bright grand is my favorite in mono. It seems to translate the best and has the least amount of phasing issues.
In stereo (for recording) the imperial & fazoli are my favorites. The low to mid range on the imperial in particular is amazing. The fazoli has an excellent dynamic range.

I am a relatively new owner of an Electro 3 73 which I recently purchased second hand ... obvious newbie question: How do you know what piano's are therein vs. available to download? (and what is v5)?
Thanks
Thanks

First of all, install Nord Soundmanager and the Clavia usb driver on your computer. Both are available on the site http://www.nordkeyboards.com or on the discs that (hopefully) came with your Electro 3. If not, it's all available on the website.julnord wrote:I am a relatively new owner of an Electro 3 73 which I recently purchased second hand ... obvious newbie question: How do you know what piano's are therein vs. available to download? Next, open the soundmanager and connect your Electro to your computer with a normal usb cable. Now in the soundmanager you'll see all the samples in your Nord in the catagories, organ and sample library, etc)
On the Nord website you can download lots of samples from the sample library to your computer. Extract the files and make sure the window with the extracted samples is open next to the soundmanager window. Now just drag the sample you like in the list with samples in the soyndmanager and the sample will copy to your Electro.
V5 is the newest collection of piano samples. You can place piano samples only in the pianofolder in your Electro because of the file format! Keep an eye on the memory space that shows below the list of samples in your Nord in the soundmanager. To delete a sample, select it by clicking on it and click delete.
It's pretty easy. Hopefully this helps you.
Enjoy your new Nord!
