Nord Drum = happiness or "Thanks, Clavia!"

Post by Nord-Drum-mer »

I've had mine about 3 weeks. Thus far, totally happy with the purchase.
Programming is a breeze, and it responds nicely to MIDI via Drum Kat and trigger pads from Roland, Simmons, and even some ancient Tama Techstar pads.
I've been using it alongside my acoustic kit to bring synth drum sounds to the stage.
Reception has been favorable from band mates and audiences alike.
There are things I'd add to it, but all in all, I think it's perfect.
I'll post some links to my youtube page as I post videos I make using Nord Drum.

Cheers from TX,
Ed

Hi Ed!

I recently bought a Nord Drum but i haven't received the drum pads i bought on ebay so my experience with this beauty has been very limited (just been playing around with the trigger button, the editing parameters and the manual these couple of days)... I hope you can post your experiences with it and as you say before, i'll be waiting for your youtube videos!

greetings from chile!

Hi ND users and others,

I was earlier quite critical about Nord Drum and especially its single output. Well, now when I finaly got mine - german Thomann is selling it for 199 euros! - I begin to really appreciate this little machine. Ok, still I feel it has its limitations (this single output and just four channels) but I also think that this simplicity is also its power. More features, bigger machine, bigger price. Workflow is just marvelous! In studio use you can of course take out those sounds individually and mix them afterwards.
Why I have changed my mind? Well, It is much about value for price. Still I am not sure if it's worth 400 euros or more but for sure for 199 euros it's really winner! Three things matter most to me: 1. Sound quality: perfect. It fits greatly to my studio rig with some very professional synths. 2. Workflow: programming is just fast and simple. You'll get what you want much faster than messing around with sample libraries for example, 3. Playability: it has great dynamics and feel. In one word, it is an INSTRUMENT.

I totally agree, it totally plays, feels like an instrument

I also have been complaining about 'missing' features.
Most of my ideas were based on other drumcomputers / 'brains', or synths, - so that it would become more like a complete drumset
but perhaps would require bigger/more expensive hardware indeed.

I now see it as a very cool add-on to my accoustic set, and in that way IT IS QUITE GOOD AS IT IS!!
because what all the other boring grey drumbraincomputer-things currently on the market lack is this GORGEOUS DYNAMIC AND TOTALLY TWEAKABLE SOUND!!!
PLUS it is RED and very TINY!

I do agree 199 euros -does make more sense - it used to be 399! (a Musicmesse with a ND2 in near future?!)

- the only thing that I am slightly dissappointed about is a small issue in current OS1.08 which I complained about to Clavia, didn't get fixed yet, so perhaps just not possible)

- hmmm when is the messe

I have also ordered it yesterday. I think that 4ch. drum instrument with great option for tweaking around incl. sysex dump is just great and only 199€
Basically, I came across that piece of gear because I was searching for percussion or drum sound module, but sure there are plenty out there but most of them have less tweakable options or they are way to expensive and have to many things I actually do not need. For my kind of music Nord Drum with be just fine. The only cons beside mono out is that will not receive CC, only program change, but even this is fine as long as there is dump option.

Will send patches I will made, I sell those anyway but will offer Nords for free. Who can charge patches for module that is less then 200€

btw - I am selling Korg N1R if someone is interested. Works well, but I am selling it because I have to many gear I do not use anymore.

Regards,
BB
