Question 1
If I want to have a basic organ sound on Nord Piano/Nord Grand 2 (that isn't included), I see that I can open up Logic, set my VST organ to the desired settings (knowing I cannot, for example, adjust Leslie on a sampled sound on NP6 or NG2), and then hit record in Logic and play, for example, minor thirds up the keyboard. I play C, hold for 2 or 3 seconds, release, wait a second or two, move to Eb, and repeat. I bounce the file as a WAV file and import right into the Nord software.
It does a great job of detecting the notes and mapping everything. My question comes in the release and holding of a key on the Nord while playing this sample. For an organ with unlimited sustain, I can use the loop feature in the Nord Sample Editor and find a good loop point so if I hold the key down the sound goes on forever. But how is the actual RELEASE of the key then treated on the Nord itself? There's no option in the software that I can see. Does the "remainder" of the note play after I release the key? That would make me cognizant of how close the end of the loop is. Or does the sample just immediately stop? Or does the sample fade out over X milliseconds. Is there any release setting on the keyboard? Is it per sound that I can adjust and save?
Question 2
What about a non-looped sound like a piano key? If I sample a piano instrument, I'm going to hold the note longer while sampling than the 2 or 3 seconds of the organ since there will be a natural decay built into every note that's important. But if I played a "staccato" note with this sample, how does the sample just stop? I get that it won't be as detailed as the pianos already built into the keyboard--I'm not looking for release sounds of the keys per se--(and probably wouldn't sample a piano), I'm just curious as to how it works.
Question 3
How are velocities handled? Do I bounce on version of the piano (about 30ish notes if going by minor thirds) with velocity of 127, then bounce another identical version with velocity at 110, and another WAV of velocity of 90, etc. That's easy enough to literally select all the notes in a DAW and change the velocity and re-bounce. But is there any automatic blending? Or would Nord keyboard just play the "closest" version of the note? (e.g. If the keyboard senses me playing at volume 100, it plays the sample of 110--essentially locking me into however many volume versions I include in the sample).
Thanks for any help for any of these questions!
