About Nord Piano 6
Hello to you all. So I own a Roland RD-300nx stage piano and use it for recording in my home studio. But I want to get myself a new and better stage piano.
I went to the music store today and was recommended the Roland hp-704 and the Casio px s7000. I only tried out the Roland stage piano but really wasn't that impressed by the piano sound of it. As for the Casio, I couldn't try it cuz it was wrapped up as I believe it is a brand new model.
However, a while back, I went to a concert and the pianist was playing a Nord 3 piano and I was blown away by the sound of the piano. I had never heard the piano sound that beautiful.
Now I hear there is a Nord piano 6. I would like to know, is the piano sound of the Nord piano 6 as good (or maybe even better?) as the Nord piano 3? I know this is probably a dumb question but I would like to know.
I would also like to know if the various strings and electronic sounds are decent in the Nord piano 6.
I think I would rather save up and buy a Nord piano rather than the Roland stage piano I tried out today. But they do cost an arm and a leg. Please advise. Many thanks.

Re: About Nord Piano 6
Also, I took a look at the Nord 5 piano, and assuming the piano sound is on the same level of quality as the Nord 3 is, or superior, which I witnessed at a concert, I think it would suit me fine, especially if the strings and electronic sounds are of a good quality. I think the Nord 5 would be more in my budget. Do you guys recommend me going for the Nord 5 piano? What makes the Nord 6 a better keyboard? Many thanks.

Re: About Nord Piano 6
The Nord Pianos (possibly except for the first generation - keep me honest folks!) all use the same Nord Piano Library and are compatible with the latest sample versions. What has changed over the generations has mostly been features. You will find that the piano samples Nord Piano 5 sound exactly the same as the Piano 6. The Piano 6 differs only in its panel layout design, expanded use of effects and a second sample synth layer with more control. I'm oversimplifying here, but the Piano 5 is used and loved by many of us here on the Forum, and most of us don't see a solid reason to move to the Piano 6.
The P5 would make a fine purchase that will give you many years of enjoyment.

Re: About Nord Piano 6
Thank you very much. That the piano of the Nord 3 sounds the same as Nord 5 is all I wanted to know. I was completely blown away by the sound of the Nord 3. And yeah, the Nord 5 does seem to be a better fit, and has everything I need. No need to over-spend on the Nord 6. Thanks again!Rusty Mike wrote: ↑11 Jun 2025, 04:29 The Nord Pianos (possibly except for the first generation - keep me honest folks!) all use the same Nord Piano Library and are compatible with the latest sample versions. Re: About Nord Piano 6
If you are buying, look closer into the product name you are going to buy. There is no such thing as a Nord 4, 5 or 6. Clavia is the manufacturer, Nord is the brand, Piano is one of the series. So there is a Nord Piano 5 or 6, a Nord Electro 6 and a Nord Stage 4 that are sold new at the moment. And this is already the short version. If you try to abbreviate further, you might get into troubles.
And it's probably the Nord Piano 5 or 6 you will want to own. There's only the Nord Grand 2 that might suit you as well - and that is not the same price. Nord Electro isn't that focussed on acoustic piano, but more between organ and electric piano; Nord Stage includes a full synth and organ engine so it costs a "little" more. The Piano 5 or 6 may be the way to go if you don't need more (as I said: fully flexible organ and synth engine don't exist on the Piano series, only some fixed sounds).

Re: About Nord Piano 6
I've played the NP2, NP3, NP4, NP5 and recently the NP6. They're largely the same samples throughout, but rendered better over time
There's another thread here where many of us saw that the NP5 was on sale ahead of the new NP6, and we thought the NP5 was the better deal. Buying used is fine, but won't save you much. And they record wonderfully!

Re: About Nord Piano 6
Hi there. I am mainly going for a great piano sound which is more along the lines of the Nord piano 5. I had a look at the Nord stage and grand and they cost a lot more money. I still want to be have sounds, apart from the piano, like strings and electronic sounds. Does the Nord piano 5 have those? You mentioned something about them having some fixed sounds.FZiegler wrote: ↑11 Jun 2025, 16:50 If you are buying, look closer into the product name you are going to buy. I also bought plug ins of sounds like strings etc that I connect with my daw, which is currently GarageBand. Thanks in advance.

Thank you very much. That they record wonderfully is a great plus.cphollis wrote: ↑11 Jun 2025, 18:20 I've played the NP2, NP3, NP4, NP5 and recently the NP6. They're largely the same samples throughout, but rendered better over time

Re: About Nord Piano 6
By the way: Welcome to this forum! You seem to have set your font size to 'large' which is a little hard to read for me. If on the other side you prefer a larger view, I'd recommend to instead use the zoom function of your web browser (mine does that with [Ctrl][+]) which allows to enlarge or downsize any web page.
As far as the sounds on the Piano 5 or 6 are concerned: Have a look on Nord's web site for the sample library and explore the sounds that can be used and tweaked with the effects section of the Piano. On a Piano 5 or 6, you have 2 piano and 2 sample synth layers at hand and can load and layer any combination of the sounds available. You will find that there are only pipe organ sounds, no Hammond sounds in the library - in that case, you may find third party created samples on this forum or by sound factories. There are very good string samples, also some synth pads and lead sounds: https://www.nordkeyboards.com/sounds/sa ... egory=2047

Yes, I took a look last night on the website and found the various sounds. They sound pretty good to me. I guess it's better to research some more, before asking dumb questions.
I did buy some sounds from spitfire and I am very pleased with the ones I bought and used them heavily in my compositions. I suppose it's good to combine sounds and plugins you can buy or find online and then have the stage piano/synth with sounds already within them.
There is one mistake I made though, in my first comment on this thread, I talked about a guy who used a Nord piano and thought initially he was using a Nord piano rather than the other types of Nord keyboards like stage etc. Turns out, I had taken a picture of his piano after the concert that I just found because I loved the sound of the piano from it so much, and the Nord piano he was using was a 'Nord stage 3' must have been if memory recalls 88 keys.
While all the while I thought he was playing a Nord piano 3. I mainly want the Nord for the piano sound, not the synths and strings stage 3 gives you, plus I am content with the sounds already within the Nord piano 5. In any case, the Nord stage 3 is way out of my budget.
My only question is that beautiful piano sound I heard on the Nord Stage 3, will be the same on the Nord Piano 5, or perhaps better? I know it sounds like a dumb question, but I need to know this before spending my money on a Nord piano. I called the shop today, the dealers of Nord in my country and the Nord Piano 5 costs around 2,500 euros; somewhere around there, I forget the actual price. The good thing is, it is within my budget!
My last question is, well on my Roland RD-300nx, there is a feature on the stage piano that is called 'equalizer' and it has the low, mid and high functions where you can edit the depth and character of the sound. Does the Nord Piano 5 have this? Because I always like to add more bass in the piano when playing and composing. The guy at the store who suggested to me the Roland hp-704 which I tried and wasn't too fond of the piano sound, said that that Roland doesn't have that function and you just do it within the daw on the eq part of mixing. But I'd rather have access to it without having to use the daw to achieve that. Many thanks. Kind Regards.
