Stereo AND mono output for NS4
Stereo AND mono output for NS4
I am now the proud new owner of a NS4. I upgraded from an electro.
According to the manual, outputs 1 and 2 are also routed to the left and right on the headphone jack.
I am trying to send a mono signal out (maybe on output 3) while still retaining stereo on 1 and 2 for headphones.
The only way I have made it work is to run separate left and right out into a physical mixer and sum it to mono there.
Am I missing something? The electro 6 had a mono switch for the output while still retaining a stereo image in the headphone jack.

Looks like you can do what you want, at least based on my reading of the manual on page 58

I think I have gear issues ....

Unfortunately it doesn’t have both a stereo AND mono out at the same time. Luckily I have an old passive mixer that does the job. I just plug outs 1 and 2 into it and have a single out on the mixer to my DI.

Re: Stereo AND mono output for NS4
I still don't understand..... I would like to hear the keyboard and the sounds set in mono to understand some things... is it possible or do I have to hear the left channel with a jack and if I change and put it on 2 the right channel!! Is it possible that you can't set the whole ns4 in mono!??

Re: Stereo AND mono output for NS4
Left (or right) channel only is not really the "mono version of the stereo output" but just a monoaural signal of the left (or right) channel information.
Think on the basis of the "auto pan" effect. If you hear only one of the channels, you should hear a 'tremolo' effect (volume up and down). If you sum the two L & R signals (mono) you would not hear any effect, while in the stereo version the sound would be bouncing between channels. Three different situations.

Re: Stereo AND mono output for NS4
I'm also interested in having 1&2 in Stereo (for FOH) and e.g. Out 3 in Mono (for monitoring). If I understand the discussion correctly that is not possible without external gear? Any further ideas?
Thanks
