Piano sounds worse on Electro 6D 73sw than Electro 4 HP

Post by peurpdapeurp »

I recently got an Electro 6D 73sw and I’m immediately unimpressed with the piano on it - I feel like the piano samples on my Nord Electro 4 HP sound more nuanced and full.

How is this possible, when they’re both using essentially rhe same piano samples? Is the difference in action of the key beds really making that much of a difference in how the pianos sound to me, or do the electro 6’s piano samples really sound different?

Well... The Dynamics with the HP-Keybed can surely not be reached with the Waterfall-one... It´s not only the sample, but also the keybed that makes the sound - and the feel that it gives you... I also use a compact Nord (NE5-73compact), since it is very leightweight and portable to carry from one rehearsal to another (what makes it really smart), but it can never reach the nuances and "magic" of my NS4-73HP - even if I use the same sample... This is one of the rules in our game...

Aside from the different actions, the output stages of the 4 and the 6 may behave differently in your amplification/audio chain (due to different electronics). This may cause the sound to feel different. You need to get the details (including EQ etc.) right. A little experimenting may help.

... and if we take a look beside the Piano-Sound-Differences...
I cannot sell my NE5, because I hear more warmth in its Organ Sounds than in the NS4...

It's the keybed. Piano on an organ keybed is never going to sound its best. Same with Rhodes/Wurlis.
