Stage 4/73 Compact broken keys replacement questions

Post by jazzmonger »

I just sold mine on Reverb.com and, of course, 4 keys broke during shipping creating a clacking key sound and rattling around inside the case. The buyer is cool. He opened up the board and found plastic tabs had broken off on 4 keys and he's willing to attempt the fix himself.

heres a pic of the broken keys.

I see that Syntaur has replacement keys "Style 08W" - has anyone used these? any tips/videos on replacement I can send to my buyer?

Anyone know what model the keybed is in the S4 Compact 73? Is it a Fatar TP8O? thats the closest I can find based on pics.

EDIT:
Syntaur just responded to my inquiry stating:
"Unfortunately it looks like those keys are no longer manufactured so we can only get replacements from sourcing them from used keyboards. I won't be able to give you an eta on the next time we will get one of these B keys in."

And, anyone know where I can get a B key?

Any help/tips appreciated,
Jeff

That's a bummer! But as long as it is "only" some keys, it's no big deal.

It should be the Fatar TP8O for 99.9%.
And replacement is quite easy. Here is a video with the Stage 2 Compact:
You simply remove the spring of the key and than you can take it out.

Some advice for opening the Stage 4 Compact (I did it twice in order to remove a lose screw):
- Unscrew the 7 screws at the upper back side
- Unscrew the wooden side parts (3 screws each)
- Unscrew one specific screw at the bottom, somehow in the middle, approx. "under" the 8 program buttons. It's a screw that is rather isolated and asymmetrical located compared to the other screws at the bottom part. This screw holds a metal bar that supports the control panel in the middle (see pic 2 and 3).

Attached are some photos that show this metal bar and the wooden side (they are fixed to the control panel).

VERY Helpful! Now I just need to find a good "B" key as according to the tech at Syntaur they are no longer made....
