HELP: Nord Stage 4 - no CtrlPed MIDI Messages
I'm using the latest firmware version 1.22 for my Nord Stage 4. I need to send my CtrlPed MIDI Messages - but this one are not transmitted. All other control like sustain and pitch bend are transmitting MIDI signals.
My MIDI configuration:
- Local Contral: OFF
- Control Change Type: CC & NRPN
- Control Change Mode: Send & Receive
- Device Change Mode: Send & Receive
Had a look to a MIDI Monitor program - so no messages sent when I use the Control Pedal.
Any idea why this doesn't work? Or still a bug in the latest firmware version 1.22?
Thank you for your support!

Re: HELP: Nord Stage 4 - no CtrlPed MIDI Messages
You nee to enable an Extern section (with CtrlPed enabled on it) or set a valid MIDI Global channel, to have the CtrlPed sending CC11 on MIDI

A shame that to have the sustain and control pedals to work, the extern has to be active. Otherwise the sustain and control pedals can be shared between two keyboards.maxpiano wrote:You nee to enable an Extern section (with CtrlPed enabled on it) or set a the MIDI Global channel to have the CtrlPed sending CC11 on MIDI

Re: HELP: Nord Stage 4 - no CtrlPed MIDI Messages
That's what the extern is for, so you can decide if/when you want to share each pedal on a per Program basis, not a shame but a good design of a master keyboard functionality (same as in other similar boards managing external MIDI zones).Heatha05 wrote:A shame that to have the sustain and control pedals to work, the extern has to be active. The shame maybe is that on NS4 each Extern "eats" 1 Synth layer, but on NUF we spoke enough about it in the dedicated threads (and still do, don't we?); maybe some future OS updates could fix this, fingers crossed for NS4 users

Re: HELP: Nord Stage 4 - no CtrlPed MIDI Messages
Sorry - still struggling with having CtrlPed MIDI Messages. Even if I enable the extern section (led is blinking when I play the keyboard - but not when I move the pedal connected to CtrlPed) CtrlPed doesn't send MIDI messages. Can you explain the detailed settings needed? Also what do you mean with set the MIDI Global channel to have CtrlPed sending CC11 on MIDI? As written - no MIDI messages are sent when I move the pedal connected to CtrlPed.
Thank you!
Thank you!

Re: HELP: Nord Stage 4 - no CtrlPed MIDI Messages
I took a look at NS4 manual ("EXTERN MENU" chapter)
3. Pedal MIDI Panel A/B/C
For each extern layer it can be determined whether to send data generated by the control (expression), swell, volume and sustain pedals. If any of these should not generate MIDI data, turn its setting to Off (...)
With regards to setting the NS4 MIDI Global Channel and enable Control Send/receive, see the MIDI Menu on the NS4 manual...
GLOBAL
this sets the transmitting and receiving MIDI channel for the Global Channel. The Global Channel transmits all keyboard, pedal and panel actions as MIDI signals. It can also be used as a receiving channel with full control of the entire Stage 4.
Range: 1-16, Off (Default 1)
Suggestion: have your NS4 manual at hand while trying things on it, it saves you time

Re: HELP: Nord Stage 4 - no CtrlPed MIDI Messages
Thx maxpiano,
I looked at the NS4 manual - and I tried as you have described for 3. Pedal MIDI Panel A/B/C. For the Ctrl Pedal MIDI all three Panels are set to ON in my configuration - but as I said - no MIDI data are sent to my notebook if a move the pedal which is connected to the CtrlPedal Input. Pedal is working fine if I just use it with my Nord Stage 4.
For the GLOBAL setting: as I have described in my first posting, I'm using Send&Receive for the Device Change Mode - so that should include the CtrlPedal. Also I'm using Midi Channel 1. Midi Data for the pitch bend, pitch stick - every device is sending midi data - but not the CtrlPedal.
What I thought first was that when I'm using Morph assign with having the CtrlPedal assigned to the pitch bend that could be the reason. But in the meantime I cleared that assignment - also this didn't solved my problem.
I'm wondering if nobody else have the same issue?

Re: HELP: Nord Stage 4 - no CtrlPed MIDI Messages
Check also the DEV setting in MIDI Menu
DEV (Device)
this allows you to set if you want your Nord Stage 4 to transmit and/or receive Device MIDI Messages or not on the global channel. devices refer to physical physical controllers that generate and send MIdI but are excluded from the Control Change filtering. these are:
• Pitch Bend
• Modulation Wheel
• Aftertouch
• Sustain Pedal
• Control Pedal
• Swell Pedal
• Volume (when Swell set to volume)
For the Extern you can also try to assign an Extern CC to CC11 and then morph it with CtrlPedal: did you try that too? EDIT: of course if using Extern, you must be in Local ON

Re: HELP: Nord Stage 4 - no CtrlPed MIDI Messages
In your original post I see you have Local set to Off. Is cc11 transmitted with Local On? Perhaps you've found a bug.

Re: HELP: Nord Stage 4 - no CtrlPed MIDI Messages
Yes - it is transmitted with Local On, but not with Local Off. I need to use Local Off because I'm using it with my daw also in combination as masterkeyboard - but also routing the midi signal back to the nord stage 4 for the nord sounds.
