Custom Tuning
Hello!
I am new to the Nord community. I bought a Nord Stage 3 last summer. I’ve got a question…
Has anyone ever tried to create a preset with “just intonation” tuning, rather than “equal temperament?” I just discovered the difference between “just intonation” and “equal temperament” and wanted to experiment with it on my keyboard.
Thanks!

Re: Custom Tuning
There is no tuning option for individual keys on any Nord keyboard nor a setting for different historical temperaments. There are many more than just and equal temperament (and micro tuning) - but this is either something you will find on other digital pianos or to be played through a DAW respectively a piano plugin/module on a computer.
Nord piano sounds are technically based on equal temperament combined with rather 'natural' sounding samles recorded from real pianos (so slightly with their own tuning characteristic).

Re: Custom Tuning
you could however create or get a set of alternate tuned samples and load them into the synth section of the Nord. It won't have all of the nuance associated with the Nord piano samples as they would be single velocity samples, but you could play around with them non-the-less.

Re: Custom Tuning
As an alternative, you may use a specialized MIDI Plugin such as https://entonal.studio which exploits Pitch Bend to artificially implement microtuning
Retune external hardware
By routing MIDI from Entonal to your pitchbend or MPE compatible hardware instrument, you can transform your favourite physical synthesisers into microtonal machines with ease.
So you will have to put the Nord in Local Off, set Global Channel to any value and have its MIDI data go to the computer to be processed by Entonal and sent back to the Nord. Of course this will be monophonic only as Pitch Bend on Nord is affecting all notes.
So, bottom line, better use a Virtual Instrument supporting temperaments
