I'm new to this, and I suspect I know the answer but just double checking. Without splitting sounds left and right etc, is there any way I can play 2 synth sounds simultaneously. on my electro 6?

That will be great, but that is imposible. You can layer piano and Synth and Organ, but only one time in the program.

You can play only one instance of the sample synth engine. The thing you can do is creating your own sample with two different sounds in a lower and upper region (with the help of Nord Sample Editor).

Hello, and welcome to the Forum! In addition to the guidance above, with sampling you are only limited by your options to record multiple sounds simultaneously. For example, if you have second keyboard or VST app to MIDI with your Electro 6, you can create layered NSMP/NSMP3 samples for your Electro using the Nord Sample Editor 4. Along with layered and split samples, you can also create samples with quite a few different sounds mapped across the keyboard. As WannitBBBad mentioned, you can do whatever combination you wish regarding layering and splitting, using the sample editor. I have an electro 4 with no layer & split capability and have managed to do some samples that would need many keyboards and many hands to be played.
An example is the "final countdown" where I use my wave for the synth brass in my right hand and all other sounds have to be played with left on the electro.
To do that I 've put some sound effects on the far left keys, a pad playing the chords layered with a single note synth bass in the first octave, a synth pad in the middle two ocrtaves and a choir sounding pad further on the right.
For recording and layering you can use any sound editing software like audacity (I use the extra old "cool edit pro"), export mix in wav format and load in sample editor.
Some cons are that those samples usually end up quite big in size and consume lot of memory and the whole process of adjusting levels and loop points is time consuming. It's worth trying though.
