Nord Piano on top tier of a stand?

Post by sentionaut »

Hi guys,

I have a Nord Piano 5 - 73 and I've just purchased a synthesizer that is bigger and heavier than the P5. I am wondering if anyone here uses their Nord Pianos on the upper tier of a stand?

I have a nice K&M two tiered stand so it can deal with the weight, would just mean I'd be playing the P5 standing up mostly - this is studio use only.

Anyone do this?

For me its depending what i will play.. for example i need 90 degrees my hands for right piano playing so i always have my piano at the first tier.. at the second tier i use synth and solo instrument hammond organ .etc or no second keyboard just my piano at first tier but i always need 90 degrees my hands and a piano bench… which means that i couldnt play piano on a second tier of keyboard stand if my hands no 90 degrees .. i couldnt have balanced playing dynamics etc

I’ve been playing piano sounds on my Nord on top of my Hammond M3 and enjoying it very much!

Thanks for the reply, I don't have too many options with limited space right now so I'll just have to put it on top and see how that works out.

A NP5 73 is lighter than a heavier 61 key keyboard (like a Jupiter X) so I wouldn’t sweat it as long as each and both are within the K&M stand limits.

I’m setting up a K&M Spider now with a 3rd tier and laptop shelf, and my first pass will be Stage 3 Compact on bottom, then Wave 2, then Rev2 Keyboard then light Macbook12”.

It’s a Stage 2 76…it weighs close to 40 lbs. I realize now that you are probably wanting feedback on how stable a heavier keyboard is when placed on the upper tier of a stand. I can’t help you much there because mine is sitting on top of a very stable console. I can say that the ergonomics of reaching a bit higher and further for a piano type action has been no problem at all . I play seated and I wondered how that would work for me.

Thanks for that, was mostly interested in ergonomics. I set it up on the top tier last night and made a lot of adjustments but got it as best I could. Will take some getting used to but its not too bad.

Yeah its a bit of a depth issue as the synth on the bottom is a Moog One so its a lot deeper than a typical Nord. Going to see how I go and maybe look at individual stands down the road when I have more space.
