Screen not functioning properly

I've just bought an used Electro 6D and the screen isn't working well, only some faint letters are visible sometimes, but most of the time it's just blank. I can't find any help on this matter and costumer support told me to have it serviced, which the previous owner did not long ago (for a lot of money). I know the seller, he told me it was working correctly the day before he sold it to me. Neither of us know what is wrong with it. Has anyone else had this problem? Can I fix it myself?
