Power conditioner or surge protector?

Post by Winds »

Is a power conditioner needed for the NS3 or is a surge protector enough?

What is your power like? Just in the studio or on gigs?

Personally I use a Furman PL-Plus DMC in my rack combined with a Cyberpower rack mount UPS, which protects against surges, voltage variations and even if the power goes out.

It might be a good idea to get a power conditioner; voltage swings can be a problem especially on island systems. Similar to MarkJames, I was also going to suggest a UPS that adds other levels of protection. Good luck!

It’s not a light solution though - my UPS adds 20 pounds to my rack! The Furman is something like 12 pounds. But good power is the most important thing for our synths.

I see, so would something like this suffice? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... t_app.html

Surge protector is never enough for a device as expensive as a Nord. Power conditioner at a minimum and UPS is better for clean power and protection from brownouts. It's all about protecting your investment.

That’s the one I use (actually the one up from that as I’m powering a rack full of things including a PC). It should be fine as long as you’re 120V / 60Hz where you live. I’ve owned it for something like 6 years and replaced the batteries once (they are user-replaceable).

It is line interactive and regulates voltage so as long as the input isn’t garbage you should be fine.

Um sorry this is probably a noob question, but how do I know of the voltage of where I live

I'd suggest checking with your local electric company. From what I could find, the power plugs and sockets in Brunei are of type G. The standard voltage is 240 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.

Yes I think this is correct.

So in theory since 240V is twice of 120V does this mean it wouldn't be enough? (It referring to https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... t_app.html) Sorry still don't fully understand how voltage conditoners work
