Nord Sound Manager Feature request: Used/Unused Programs

Everything about Nord keyboards in general; which one to choose, the sound manager, sample editor, and general discussion about the sample and piano libraries.

Nord Sound Manager Feature request: Used/Unused Programs

Post by florence »

Hi

Maybe this was already requested here, but I'm not aware on how to do that today:

My 400 programs are full with custom programs and the original Nord programs. Over the time I used both in my Song entries. But of course a lot of original Nord programs are not used in my Songs, but I know for sure that I used some. I like to keep them to learn how they are done, or to use them as starting point.

But now I would need to delete some programs that I think I will never use. This becomes mandatory to have new spare location... But this work is difficult as I'm not aways sure if the program is used or not in a Song.

What would be the best option?

I would love to have an additional column in the Program tab that shows when a Program is used in a Song (better than the info pane, because we can sort it)...

Isn't the information you are looking for shown in the Song column of the Sound Manager? Or maybe I am misunderstanding what you refer to.

The Song column just shows the name of the song, not the program it points to.
The easiest way to deal with the Programs is just shift+select the ones you want and save them to a folder. Do not save samples or pianos, just the programs. This will only take seconds and assuming you don't change your samples or pianos, you can load them back any time to see how they were built.

I do this every every programming session, I save all programs to my 2022 NS3 folder. I never change the piano samples and when a new sample is used in a program, the program remembers the location, no need to save large files.

I would need the opposite, the Song tab shows for each Song what Program is used. I would like to see in the Program tab for each program if it is used in a Song or not.

Something quite similar to the Samp Lib tab, it contains an unnamed column that shows 'Unused" if the sample is not used. (this is very useful so you can delete it for sure)

See below in the Sample Lib tab, it shows all the samples that are unused, example 'Small Choir Male oh Soft' is not used, I can remove it if I need more space in the sample section. I can even sort on these 'Unused' to have a quick overview of what is not used.

Below in the Program tab, equivalent information (used / unused in Song) is not available. Would be very valuable to have the same feature.

That's my main problem, how I know if a Program is used or not in a Song... ?

Yes that could be a useful feature, but as you also said

so this should be the answer to

It's not very easy to get an overview about the used/unused programs. But maybe, the HTML export feature of NSM could be of some help - it shows the program names used within the songs, just not the program numbers, though. So, you might at least search in that table for every program you suspect not to be used:

Maybe decipher the ns3s format in a backup ?
Another path could be the Song Bundle (.ns3sbundle), as I don't know what it contains ? Maybe some CSV extract from this ZIP to identify the programs ?

Just my euro 0.02,

Fred

Good point, I would expect that a Song "bundle" (= "all you need for those Songs") contains also all programs (and related samples) included in the Song(s). Worth trying

no missed nothing, his is of course right, but must be done Song by Song  I'm looking something faster to have a better overview of what can be removed...
