Troubleshooting my Stage 3, won't turn on

Post by AelaleA »

I received my used Nord Stage 3 in the mail a couple weeks ago. First couple of days it worked what I believe was normally. Then I woke up one morning to find that it wouldn't turn on after it had been plugged in to the wall over night (in retrospect should've used a strip, perhaps a surge could be the issue?). I checked the fuse and it was blown. I have since replaced the fuse, with this model fuse: T3AL250V 5x20mm 3A 250V Slow Blow Fuse T3AL Glass Slow-Acting 3Amp Time delay Fuse ( I am hoping that this is simply the incorrect fuse, and would like to double check what the correct one should be.

For more information, I purchased the keyboard from Italy and I live in the US. However I found that the switch was already flipped to the correct 110 voltage setting inside the piano when I opened it up. I didn't see any immediately apparent problems with the inner electronics, but I am not an expert or even particularly adept at picking out flawed circuits/transistors/etc.

I am using a power cord that came from the reseller, and am converting it with a converter to be able to plug in to the outlets here. I also purchased what I believe is the correct new power cord so I don't have to use the converter which gets a little loose, here is the model of that power cord: UL IEC C7 2 Prong Power Cord 8ft Replacement AC Cable for Nord C1 C2 Combo Organ Piano 88, Stage 3 88 Stage Keyboard,Electro 3 61 Keyboard,Electro Stage EX C2 Wave Stage Combo Organ Rack (

What other information do yall need in order to help me diagnose the issue?

Thanks!
Alex

Sorry you didn't get any answer. I don't have any idea why this happend. Has your problem been solved in the meantime?

The power cord you mentioned doesn't look at all like a Nord power cable - neither for a Stage nor for any other keyboard from Nord. Your Nord has a IEC-60320 C13 jack, so you would need a cable with a C14 plug on one side and the usual mains plug on the other side.

If the power selector switch inside the Nord already was set to 110 V, this is fine. On the other side, your instrument will draw more current with this setting - that's why you need another fuse: 250 or 300 mA instead of 125 mA. I see the mentioned 3A fuse as a security issue as this would allow your instrument to get up to 330 W which you will never need. 'Slow blow' seems to be fine, though (see nord-stage-forum-f3/stage-3-try-orderin ... age#p90091).

Don't forget to mark the outside of your instrument with a note mentioning the 110 V setting: If ever you get back to a 240 V country, you'll blow your nice Nord if you just plug it there without switching back.
