Sorting Stage 3 by Instrument categories

Hi all,

two years now I use my Stage 3 and still not familar with it.
I'm missing so much a clearly sorted "midi" structure as I was used to from e.G. Roland:

First all Pianos
Then all e-Pianos
Then all Strings, Flutes, Guitars, Bass etc

I tried hours on several forums.
I was told by the dealer, "You can sort whatever You want for each of Your songs"
Yesterday again on a session I was looking for an Accordion and unable to succeed.

Tried later by nord Sound Manager: here I can sort by categories and find several Accordions,
but if You sort by cat. directly in the stage 3 there is no cat. "Accordion".

So is there any donload for a "ready sorted Instrument-list" sorted by categoeries?

There is a finite amount of categories. Some are subjective. So, it would be up to you to use the sound manager, right click the program, and put it into the category that you yourself would remember.

It would probably be easier to rename programs, such as accordian, flute, piano. Then you can sort alphabetically for them in the NS3-

On a Nord Stage, a program typically uses different of the 6 sound engines:
The 2 piano engines for acoustic grand, upright, EP, clavinet or divers - if you have a NS3 gen-A, you lack the piano type button; gen-B has it. I'm not sure how to preselect piano sounds on a gen-A.
The organ engine will let you directly control any organ sound.
If you are looking for an accordion, you'll unfortunately need to look into the synth section - where they sit amoung strings, synth sounds, bass and brass. Which may not be funny.

As long as you regularly play you Stage, it's easy to remember the most needed programs. But I suspect it might not be best bet for irregular use.

thanks so far.

Solved it partly now with SoundManager:

I deleted complete BANK A and then I put all pianos there.
Same with BANK B and I put all ePianos there.

So far it seams to be the solution for my problem.

BUT:

Now I loaded "Accordion Harmonium 3.0" from nordstage page
and loaded into the SoundManager.
These new Accordions are all in the "Samp Lib".

QUESTION:
How can I get them into the BANK C ???

You have load now the sample. Make a programm with the sample in the synth section and store it wherever you want. Add some effects, use a filter, just create your own sound.

Hi Frank,

you definitely should read the manual. Nobody will want to explain all details of basic handling.

A sample and a program are not the same thing. Moreover, there are two types of samples: piano samples and synth samples with different storage.

A nsmp3 file is a synth sample that can be loaded into one of the two synth engines on your NS3 (you can load it on some other Nord instruments as well). It will be loaded instead of a certain wave form and needs to be "salted" by additional settings and effects. It will then get a "sound". And may be combined with one ore more other sound engines - every program you are playing at the moment can have up to 2 piano engines, 2 organ engines and 2 synth engines playing at the same time - which is somewhat similar to layering and splitting sounds on other instruments. All settings of the 6 sound engines (engaged or not) together are a program with an address like A:11 and a name that you can edit.

So, if you have a new accordion sample downloaded via the Nord Sound Manager (while having free synth memory in your NS3), you can start editing a new program, engage the synth engine on slot/panel A, load your accordion sample into that synth engine and adapt the rest to get an accordion program - which can then be stored in whatever program bank. All those procedures are explained in the manual.

Yes reading the manual thoroughly and understanding the terms and architecture of the instrument will greatly help you to organize your sounds.

Is exactly what I have started to do: I want to reduce the weight of my gigging rig, so I plan to keep my NS3 and get rid of my Roland FA07 (which is amazing, by the way) I will use a 2nd keyboard only if required (lightweight midi controller of 49 or 61 keys).

So basically I will keep 30% of slots for pianos and organs + some bread and butter sounds organised in the same way (strings, brass, etc. etc.) and that's all. I have a lot inside my NS3 that is not currently used and with 'only' 400 slots is hard to have it all.

Pls be assured I tried to read the manual, I saw the tutorials on https://www.nordkeyboards.com/
and I watched many tutorials on Youtube but I'm really desperate...

I highly appreciate and love this instrument for 95% of it's capabilities and skills.

But the use and operation looks so oldschool and NON-intuitive to that I could not believe it.
I thought, I just don't understand this Instrument. That's why I decided to ask for help here.

Anyhow, Your hints helped me and I must state, it is not that easy as I thought to.

Found this way now:

Putting pianos on Bank A
ePianos on Bank B
Leaving blank Bank C
Putting all the others which are easily to move on Banks D E F etc....

On Bank C I copied an existing Accordion by "save as" directly at the SP3 to C1, renamed it, relinked it with the wanted Accordion.
Then I copied it by "save as" directly at the SP3 to C2 and changed/relinked with next wanted According.
And so on and so on...

This will take "thousands of hours" at the end, but if there is no easy way by drag and drop, I must go that way.

Maybe there might be some easier way...?

Livving in "Win10 time" or IOS with copy-paste-drag and drop but looks like SoundManager or OS is still "MS-DOS"- era and not developed till the end of all possibilities ?!?
