Hello
Anybody knows if it’s possible to use midi keyboard with aftertouch and get the sound from Nord Electro 6D?
I’m using midi keyboard Studiologic Grand with aftertouch and I’m sure I’ve connected the keyboards right but the aftertouch doesn’t do anything with the Nord’s sound…

Hi, the NE6 does not support aftertouch, neither via MIDI, so it is normal that nothing happens if you send it as such, but on the SL you may map AT to send one of the CCs supported (see NE6 manual appendix).

Re: Aftertouch from MIDI to NordE6D
@maxpiano 's is correct but if you're not experienced with the Midi mumbo jumbo I'll add a short explanation and some CC's you can modulate with aftertouch.
Many sound generating keyboards (synthesizers, piano's etc) today allow other Midi devices to change parameter values via Continuous controller (CC) messages. Values range from 0 to 127. 127 steps is a pretty low resolution, but Midi was invented in the 80's and some manufacturers apply tricks to smooth it out.
As @maxpiano said, you can map Aftertouch on the Studiologic to a Midi CC the Nord does respond to. All CC's are listed in the manual in the Midi implementation chart. Many CC's the Nord listens to are mapped to the on/off switches and not suitable for aftertouch. Still there are plenty continuous parameters you can modulate.
Here are some that might be worthwhile to try out.
Modulate the onboard effects:
Effect 1 Rate: #86 <- CC number
Effect 2 Rate: #90
Delay Rate: #94
Delay Feedback: #95
Amp/Spkr Drive: #101
Fade in the sample synth with aftertouch:
Sample Synth Level: #43

Re: Aftertouch from MIDI to NordE6D
i was about to start a new thread to ask exactly the same question... i wanted to use aftertouch to control the low-pass filter on the sample synth, but that doesn't seem to be possible because it's not exposed as a MIDI CC.deenigewouter wrote:As @maxpiano said, you can map Aftertouch on the Studiologic to a Midi CC the Nord does respond to. but even if it was, unless i'm missing something obvious here, there's no way to map the Studiologic's aftertouch to a MIDI CC; the only setting available for aftertouch is "ON / OFF", and the aftertouch value is always sent as MIDI Channel Pressure. so we can't even use aftertouch to control the fx or volume.
i realise the Electro isn't sold as a synth, so i'm not too bothered about this, but it's a shame that the MIDI functionality is missing here even though the sound engine is capable of doing it.

Re: Aftertouch from MIDI to NordE6D
I forgot that on Studiologic SL the AT is not assignable to any CC sorry (on other master keyboards instead you can, on SL only the joysticks), so bad... in that case you need something external to do the MIDI remapping AT -> CC for you, a computer or a MIDI Processor box. In any case as you also noted the NE6 MIDI implementation is limited and deenigewouter already made the few examples that make some sense, in his post.Amaryllis wrote:i was about to start a new thread to ask exactly the same question... i wanted to use aftertouch to control the low-pass filter on the sample synth, but that doesn't seem to be possible because it's not exposed as a MIDI CC.deenigewouter wrote:As @maxpiano said, you can map Aftertouch on the Studiologic to a Midi CC the Nord does respond to.
