Footswitch: Rotary Toggle or Latch, but not both?
Hi folks!
Starting to use more of the footswitch options on my Stage 2.
1) Rotary: Glad to have found a way to toggle the Rotary between Fast/Slow with a footswitch. That works great.
2) Latch: I also like the idea of using the Latch (sostenuto) feature. I'm having trouble getting it working, but I'll save that for another post. I'd like to use it to put on some strings or pad and leave them up while I do something else.
But it looks like I have just one jack for both purposes, and I have to use the System setting to switch between them? That's not really performance friendly, and it means I can't use both at once.
Is there a way around this? Am I understanding this correctly?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Reggoboy - You can also configure a pedal plugged into the standard sustain jack to serve dual purpose as rotor speed and sustain. Check out the sustain pedal settings to specify this…hope that proves helpful.

Thanks for that reminder!be lee vit wrote:Hi Reggoboy - You can also configure a pedal plugged into the standard sustain jack to serve dual purpose as rotor speed and sustain.

But yes, I just got another “sustain” pedal because I want to be able to have simultaneous ability to sustain and toggle rotary speed. So I really want a third pedal for latch….

If you configure it the way I’m suggesting it does give you the “simultaneous ability to sustain and toggle rotary”. The functions are combined on one pedal. Apologies if that seems redundant but it wasn’t clear to me from your response whether you were aware of that.

Re: Footswitch: Rotary Toggle or Latch, but not both?
Sorry, I'm probably not communicating clearly. I need the functions to exist simultaneously, but also independently. When I want to Sustain, I don't want the Rotor changing speed. And when I need to speed up the rotor, that doesn't mean I want my notes sustaining. That's why it seems I need two pedals.be lee vit wrote:If you configure it the way I’m suggesting it does give you the “simultaneous ability to sustain and toggle rotary”. Frankly, it seems odd to me that they think combining those features would be useful. Perhaps most people only use Rotary with Organ and never use Sustain with Organ. But I do use Sustain with Organ and I do use Rotary with Electric Pianos. So unless I'm missing something, using this "combo" feature will not work for me, right?
Re: Footswitch: Rotary Toggle or Latch, but not both?
Sostenuto is yet another thing. It refers to a feature that "sustain" only the notes that have already been pressed. Usually it's the middle pedal in a piano.
If it's that you're referring about (though I have a hard time picturing how one could apply that to organ playing), not only you need a separate input, but the only pedal capable of doing that on Nords is the Triple pedal (bulky and expensive). I have this pedal for my Stage 3, but it's meant to work with piano only. Its sustain feature does work with the organ engine as well but NOT the sostenuto feature. So I am afraid there is literally no way to achieve what you aim, unless what you aim is sustain and not sostenuto.

That's true on the NS3, but on the NS2 which the OP has (according to its profile at least) the latch/sostenuto is available on Organ too hand also the KeybGate) so using the triple pedal sostenuto central) pedal is the solution to go for in that case.Hlaalu wrote:Sostenuto is yet another thing. Ah I understand better what you are aiming for. In practice I find that if the sustain pedal function is set for rotor toggle (as opposed to rotor hold) the short amount of pedal depressing time it takes to change rotor speed engages sustain for so little time that it's almost unnoticeable on whatever sound you have the sustain enabled on. On the stage 2 you can always set up the latch for sounds that you want to sustain for longer.

Re: Footswitch: Rotary Toggle or Latch, but not both?
Oh, good point! Yes, I'm planning to use toggle mode, so there will probably be little Sustain effect to conflict with that. And so then maybe the Rotory/Latch pedal can be dedicated to the Latch function that I'm seeking.be lee vit wrote:Ah I understand better what you are aiming for. Let me try this and get back to you.

Did they remove the Latch Pedal feature on the NS3? Why would they do that?maxpiano wrote:That's true on the NS3, but on the NS2 which the OP has (according to its profile at least) the latch/sostenuto is available on Organ too hand also the KeybGate) so using the triple pedal sostenuto central) pedal is the solution to go for in that case.Hlaalu wrote:Sostenuto is yet another thing. So on the NS3, the only way to achieve latching is via the triple pedal?
