Everything about Nord keyboards in general; which one to choose, the sound manager, sample editor, and general discussion about the sample and piano libraries.

Salt air

Post by MonkeyDonkey »

My band is booked to play a couple of harbor cruises. Should I be concerned about salt air corrosion? I'm considering not bringing the Nord and sticking with an older keyboard for these shows. Or am I worrying over nothing? Thanks for any advice.

I live near the Pacific Ocean. Will you be outside directly exposed to salt spray? If you're in a cabin area directly protected from the effects of the ocean I wouldn't worry. Outdoors on the deck IF THE OCEAN IS NOT FLAT, I'd think twice about bringing the Nord and grab the the Triton. The bow is where you'll get the most spray. Either way, I'd wipe it down well after the gig.

Hi MonkeyDonkey,

I was a sailor in my younger life and would recommend, if you have the possibility to go to that place some days before your gigging, that you stay there let‘s say about two hours and then the next day you check how your clothes feel on your skin. If a textile gives you the feeling that it won‘t get dry anymore, then the salt is the reason why. In that case I would definitely take a cheap keyboard. If not, enjoy your nord.

By the way, where are you located? Which ocean is it? Some are saltier than others.

Cheers from Germany

On the harbor cruises I have seen (at least the commercial ones), entertainment is indoors. These cruises have to run rain or shine, so there's usually ample indoor space. Or not, as the case may be.
I think I have gear issues ....

Thanks, all. The gig is definitely outdoors, on the deck of the boat. I will leave the Nord at home. Many thanks for your advice.

Or, if these are high profile gigs destined to end up on the tubes of you, go for the look and the sound and hang the expense

Sure, the Nord looked great on the high profile gig, but the cinema photographer had some issues with Monkey's skin diving mask, snorkel, and speargun
